Calpol and sleep

Lo won't take calpol, but I never had a problem with Nurofen. Maybe worth a try.

Have just bought a bottle.

It has no E numbers listed in the ingredients, but after pressing the pharmacist for more info, she told me that one of the ingredients, Glycerol, is actually an E number. It's the only one though, so seems better than Calpol.

Think I'll give it in the day a few times before I risk another evening like yesterday though!

How old are the children? Do you mean like sleeping tablets?

Not sure actually, I think it was some kind of antihistamine medicine. It was being used specifically to get them to sleep though.

Liquid antihistamine has sedative properties as a side effect...IVe heard of people using this too :(

I find that connah will either sleep badly or not at all when we have given calpol, however,he is fine when we give nurofen :shrug:x

I can't believe people do that! No matter how sleep deprived I am, I would never drug my son to get him to sleep!!

i actually think anyone using sedatives to get their child to sleep should be reported to social services, what a digusting thing to do to a child - if a child is not sleeping then there are reasons for it, be it pain or just sleep issues either one should be resolved - giving a child sedatives in order to 'cover' up the problem is liek sticking thm in the garden shed imo

anyway back to the topic lol i dont think for a minute calpol makes los sleepy - it may help them sleep by dulling the pain so they can settle but it has no sedative in it, it is only paracetamol after all - but yeah all the colourings and sugar in it certainly used to string jack out
