Can anyone tell me about having a low placenta?

I have just come back from my 20 week scan. I know I should be happy as they said everything looked ok with bub but they said my placenta is anterior and low lying, so this has freaked me out abit and I feel really deflated. They have also written on my notes, the parents are aware that not all abnormalities can be diagnosed with the ultrasound scan... Do they put this on all lady's ultrasound notes ?? Or is this just to cover their back if they have seen something but they haven't said. My midwife appointment isn't for another 5 weeks. So many questions....

Hey!

Yes they put that on all the results sheets! Mine says something like 'although everything looks normal we have to make you aware this doesn't mean bla bla bla' I think it's just a precaution, sometimes things can be missed on the scans. If everything looked fine then everything will most likely be okay, don't worry!

As for the low lying placenta I felt exactly the same as you, which is why I posted this thread, and all the ladies have really reassured me! Did they book you in for another scan? If they have it's likely they want to check if it's moved. Is there any other information on your notes about your placenta?

Try to relax, everything will be okay :)

thank you for your reassurance.

they just said the placenta Is anterior and low lying. the bub was breach also. approx wright 13oz which seems quite alother to me.

Anterior placenta is slightly more tricky if you need a csection as sometimes it can lie directly under where they need to cut so they have to be a lot more careful, but other than they'll follow the same procedure :)

I know it can be very worrying, the second time I made myself almost ill with worry about my placent. I was having nightmares, worrying about it daily and cries over it numerous times. But I was the minority that time, and both me and my baby are fine regardless of the mode of delivery. Every time I see someone post about low placentas I feel the need to reassure them, as I could have used it myself if you know what I mean!

At 20 weeks you still have another 20 to go so your chances are still good :) if you ever want to ask anything about either delivery (resolved or unresolved) feel free to private message :flower:

At my 20 week scan my placenta was low lying posterior and.covering OS. At 32 weeks it had been pushed up and out of the way.

I've been waiting till my scan to post here. I was told low lying placenta (posterior) at 20 weeks scan too and to have a follow up. It was 9mm from OS and I just had my scan today to check it at 28 weeks and its now 44mm from OS, plenty far away now. Hope this helps!

I had my 20 week scan yesterday and was told I have a low lying placenta but not a previa. I have to have another scan at 32 weeks to check to see if it's moved. I was all panicky and teary but the sonographers told me that when my uterus is fully formed and moves up my placenta should too. They said it was a normal variant. I already had three extra scans scheduled at 28, 32 and 36 weeks to check growth so at least they can keep a close eye on it I guess. I am panicky though xxxx

This is really good to know! Thank you! :)
