I've just started to wean my boy twin a few days ago, I was advised to start weaning at 17wks due to severe reflux but didn't as I felt they were nowhere near ready but over the last week I felt my DS was ready to try food he was showing so much interest in our food they sit in their highchairs at dinner time with us and he would get so excited when we put food out so I gave him a little sweet potato on Sunday and wow he nearly ate my arm he was crazy kept pulling the spoon from my hand into his mouth absolutely loved it but I hadn't planned to do TW made up small batches just incase but would really prefer BLW.

He sits completely unaided can lift and put things up to his mouth and even willingly opens his mouth for his spoon can I introduce BLW at this age and has anyone any experience BLW at 5 months....

This is him yesterday :)

Yes you can, as long as you do proper BLW. If LO isn't ready, he won't be able to eat so no problem! If, on the other hand, you 'mix it' with spoon feeding purees (i.e. do TW) you're by-passing natural safety mechanisms so that's more risky than BLW IMO and isn't BLW at all.

Do it whenever your ready.

My eldest stole a chip from daddies plate just before 5 months and put it in her mouth that is when we knew she was ready. We just started putting some food on the tray in front of her from then on to experiment with when we ate dinner. If you wish to do true BLW then there is no right or wrong as the baby has the control/sets the pace.
