Just bought some brie cheese from M&S and it says on the back it's made with pasteurised milk... is this okay? Apparently I read someone said the item was okay to eat if it was made with pasteurised milk/eggs?

Humm, I think it's the bacteria in soft and veiny cheeses that are the problem rather than the milk. I'd say no too.

Yay just found this :)

Gemie, you're fine since it's made with pasteurized milk. The risk is listeria, not mould per se. Soft and mould ripened cheese are often made with unpasteurized milk. But where it's pasteurized, there's no risk. Both Canadian and American government agencies, and my prenancy book, and the specialist dietician I met with last week said it's fine. I'm uber cautious and wouldn't eat the stuff if I had any doubt but pasteurized almost anything is a green light!

No we're not babes :-( I love Brie it's yummy...... However I will say I have followed all the rules etc for the 1st 4/5 months and then I start eating what I like again I have done that with all of my kids and they are healthy and happy. X

here's the boring list :-(
it's only guidance tho honey and the risk is pretty small with most of it xx

No its not okay to eat Brie, thats what it says in my pregnancy book. xx

Conflicting info then as usual... I shouldn't expect anything less I've found lol No-one really knows

As long as it's pasteurised it's fine to eat, I know a few people who have eaten it and it's fine.. Also if you have it melted it's even safer XX

It's up to you, there is a small risk I believe but if it's pasturised then the risk will bee very small. It is your choice, I ate Brie and prawns before I got my BFP don't thinkbits done any harm.

I think a lot of advice is given to be easy to understand, so rule out whole batches of things not actually taking account of individual things as that might confuse the general public:)

The concern is that you might get food poisioning - thats why they say no fish and no brie

Pasturised is fine - and if you dont get ill no worries....

:)

no fish?! Never heard of that.

I think that the confusion here is coming from a difference in food standards. In the US, nearly all of the cheese sold in grocery stores is pasteurized due to government guidelines. Completely fresh cheese that you buy from local farms/organic stores wouldn't necessarily follow these guidelines, however.

From what I've heard, as long as the cheese is pasteurized, it's fine. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to avoid the rind... but... I wouldn't eat that anyway :p.
