Hello :)

I use a different mouthwash at the moment, that says it's safe during pregnancy. But i really like listerine, it feels like it cleans better and it tingles :D

Does anyone know if i can use it during pregnancy?

If it doesn't say its not safe on the bottle I'd assume it is.

Not checked but i thought as it's alcohol based it might not be ok?

You don't swallow it you spit it out so it doesn't matter about the alcohol in it.

You are allowed to drink a glass of wine a week so I really don't think mouthwash will cause any problems.

I've read that it is not safe to use any mouthwash..it's not about the alcohol but about another chemical/substance (can't remember the name now) that is in it.
I wouldn't use listerine..

It is safe. I'm using Corosydl mouthwash which says it is safe in pregnancy. I got it prescribed from the dentist last time. Just don't swallow it =)

i was addicted to the purple lisetrine with my son.

never occured to me that could be bad, lol, but i would say its prob safer to use something to prevent dental problems than anything else, it it were really unsafe it would have to say on the bottle.

It's never even crossed my mind that you can't use mouthwash! I've used a whole bottle of listerine since being pregnant!

Whoa!!! Can't believe what I'm reading. Mouthwash is safe as long as it doesn't contain alcohol. Crest (I know I use it and was approved by my doctor) makes alcohol free mouthwash. You can get it at Wal-Mart and other stores.

lol i used it through my last pregnancy and in this one, sometimes you just need a good ol' bit o the listerine drain cleaner!!!

I don't understand why can't you believe what you are reading?

Also why is mouthwash with alcohol in unsafe? You aren't drinking it!

peridontal disease is associated with pre term labour and preeclampsia so I think he listerine is the lesser of two evils.

Im a dental nurse and have never heard of a single problem about using mouthwash, whether it has alcohol in it or not!
Corsodyl is a very strong mouthwash and if you can use that in pregnancy you can use all of them.
Listerine will be fine, but we recommend Colgate Flouriguard for our patients as that has a nice amount of Flouride in it (this one comes in non alcohol and alcohol - both pretty much the same thing)
Its completely safe. The cleaner your teeth and gums the healthier you are! xxx

Thanks for all your replies! Not sure if i've made up my mind yet hehe...i think i'll ask at the pharmacy! :haha:

I was just surprised that mouthwash has been labeled by some as harmful during pregnancy. I'd just never heard of mouthwash as being unsafe during pregnancy. As for the alcohol free, doctor says it's just another way to minimize any ingestion of alcohol as it can still be absorbed sublingually (under the tongue). I don't mean any negativity.

u get listerine mouthwash alcohol free too.. that's what i use.. its safe...
