OH freaks out if I'm near the microwave while it's heating something up. Can microwaves really harm unborn children?

It's perfectly safe to use a microwave in pregnancy, as long as it is in good working order and not leaking.

Have a read of this

https://pregnancy.about.com/od/isitsafeinpregnancy/qt/microwave.htm

I remember being concerned about this when I was preg with my first and found some info in a science publication that said people should always stand at least 5 feet away because that's how far the waves can travel while it's operating. It uses radiation afterall, so I was a bit paranoid about this until I learned more of the science behind it. I rarely use them, but there's a couple in the kitchen at my office and I found I was always walking by them while people were reheating their food. I felt like a dork for walking as far from them as possible, but in my mind, I was being cautious for bubs.

HMM interesting lol I never worried about the microwave but understand the feeling! OH freaks out when i poke my belly! LOL :D he thinks i can make dents on the babys body , and i never push hard on it lol!!

i wondered this?! i was heating something in the microwave and thought - is this actually safe to do!

then my mind started thinking is it ok to have my blackberry phone bear my belly, i wear hoodies and put it in the hoodie pocket which is right on the front of my belly!
so i stopped doing that as got worried bout it!!!!

i think of everything these days since being pregnant.

just do not heat food or defrost it in plastic. Always use glass. =D

i have never heard of this, and with all 3 pregnancies i have used a microwave, and heated plastic, glass and paper things in there, both my other children are perfectly fine, and for me i think if you worry about every little thing no-one pregnant would ever go out the house or do something in the house the whole time they are pregnant.

just think about the people who dont realise they are pregnant till later on in pregnancy, they carry on as usuall doing everything as if they are not pregnant, i didnt know i was pregnant with my son till i was almost 20weeks, and therefore carried on as usual, eating everything and drinking everything normally, i even went on fair ground rides which state do not go on if pregnant.

ok! we have got a brand new microwave for a while.. Same as some of u, my oh tells me to keep distance from it when its on... because it seems the other day he was voice chatting and put his 'wireless' bluetoooth head gear on.. and he was walking around the house while voice chatting and the micrwve was on and when he came into the kitchen and stood watching wat was been warming inside it, he lost bluetooth signal from the laptop..and as he moved away from the mcrwvoven he cud speak and he tried it again and lost conn.. so! there is something about it affecting blueetooth waves infront of the mvwve.. i wudnt stand infront of it!! just a small distance away!!!

very unlikely but would it do any harm to stand a bit away from it?
