As in work for someone say during the week but then work as self-employed at weekends. I have a feeling you can but couldnt get google to agree. xx

I think you can........ work via an employer is taxed at source via the pay roll.
As self employed any income is gross so has to be declared in a self assessment tax return.

It's all down to tax!!!

yep you can I was for years - basically you need to register as self employed and they will send you a request to complete a tax return every April and you will pay tax on the money you earn as self employed and NI am afraid x

Absolutely.
I've done this for years.
Taxes can be a bit more complicated, so I would recommend getting professional advice on filing them for the first year or two, but once you understand how to account for everything, it's really quite straightforward. There are some great tax breaks with self-employment, too! :)

I've just had 2 years of being self employed and you have to be really disciplined about putting money away to pay for tax and then extra to pay for the year's advance 'payment on account' and class 4 NI.

It cost over £600 in accountant fees!!
Give me PAYE any day..................... thankfully I am now an employee!
but yes! I got more tax breaks when self employed!!!
xx
