anyone test negative on a quantitative blood test only to find out later that they are in fact, pregnant? (whether by ultrasound, etc.)

Hey,

Not me personally, but a friend of mine took countless tests and had a blood test done. Everything came back negative. Finally they thought she had appendicitis and booked her in for an ultrasound. What they found was that she was over 12 weeks pregnant!

oh my goodness! really? wow thats hopeful thanx I needed that :) Hey, just to be sure, was it the quantitative blood test she was taking or the qualitative one?

It is possible but very unlikely, for example it could be too early to fully pick anything up. In all honesty if you are still having periods and getting negatives from HPT's and a blood test you are probably not pregnant. It is more likely a case that you are trying to convince yourself you are pregnant, which I have done before and I bet a lot of others on here have too. But do not worry, if you are not pregnant and are in the right position to have a baby you can always TTC. Good luck. :flower:

I just think its weird. I've accepted after I got the blood test that Im not pregnant but then I still got an odd shape in my abdomen and tummy. I look pregnant.......and i saw the veins penetrating deeper into my aerola haha....seriously, not sure what to think

Hmmm, I'm not totally sure which test it was. It was the one where they check for the pregnancy hormone. I'm guessing that would be quantative, same as yours.

I really hope the same things happening for you. After being told over and over she wasn't pregnant she'd given up hope and her and her oh started ttc again but that's when she started getting pain and they booked her in for a ultrasound. She said she was preparing herself for appendicitis or ovarian cysts or something but there was a perfect little baby instead!

I won't uncross my fingers till I hear some good news from you hun!

Xxx

yes that sounds like the same one :) thanks friend, plus it could be a mess up in the lab I guess too........its possible I mean, right?

I have no idea because I think you are in America (if I recall from another post). Here in the UK you would go to your GP. When I had my second MMC they would not see me in the pregnancy assessment unit because of mixed results so I had to wait to go though general scans and with the long waiting list the MC had being completed by then. Do you need a referral from a GP like we have here?

thanks for the tip! Not sure, but Im guessing its not that easy. I always hear about how people that get negative results are unable to convince their doctors and in turn they are denied an ultra sound and what not.......ehh maybe i should just see if i keep growing (down there) and see how my periods are, then take another blood test if i feel like i still need to.

Not to be harsh, but I'd be extremely surprised if you were pregnant...

You didn't truly have intercourse since you weren't penetrated, you're still having monthly periods, you've had countless negative HPTs, you had a negative blood test; It sounds pretty negative to me.

If something is "growing" down there, you need to see your doctor and figure out what it is. You need to be honest with them and explain that the chances of you being pregnant are slim to none and therefore, something is hugely wrong for something to be growing down there and they need to figure it out and fix it. This isn't something you just wait and see what's going on. Something is wrong and it needs to be seen and taken care of. If you have a cyst or something growing in your uterus, you could be damaging your body by not having it taken care of, and in turn make it unable for you have kids in the future.

DAMN WOMAN. I read that cysts are usually nothing to worry about thanks for your concern though :)

That gives us ladies playing the horrible and painful 'waiting game' hope. :) I so hope this is the case for me, would be a surprise but a lovely surprise.

Where can you get them done in the UK hun? I am thinking if this carries on soon I'd be best having one just to rule stuff out and start getting some answers after that faint bfp then all these bfn's after... x

Some cysts go away on their own but if your belly is noticeably growing and you're not pregnant, I'd be pretty concerned it's something more serious - a tumor? I'm not a doctor so I can't say one way or the other but I'd be freaking out if I were you! That's just me though... Best wishes.

I have said that with periods, negative hpt's and the blood results that I think it is unlikely but knowing this would also make me HUGELY surprised if you were. Do you mean there is something 'growing' there or could it be just bloating? I have to agree with gardenofedens, if you have some sort of lump then please go see your GP ASAP! May be nothing but you should get it checked out.

its definitly not bloating, it is like the pubic region area, i feel like theres a bone there that I can feel that never used to be there..its odd. and the area looks puffy and has somewhat expanded since march, my tummy is round. It doesn't change within an hour or two or a day or two or a couple weeks, so I know it definitly not bloating. Im dumbfounded.

If you had a BFP and then negatives you need to go see your GP and tell them, if they are good they may send you to the early pregnancy unit with suspected MMC however if they are like mine they may make you wait and go through general scans. My GP was happy for me to go in the early pregnancy assessment department but they said they would not without the up-to-date positive at the GP's office and even though my GP wanted an early scan with DS due to my history they would not do it without bleeding which I get since it would not change anything but at the same time I did not want to go to another 12 week scan to find out the bean stopped growing at 6 weeks again so it would have felt reassuring. So basically it really depends on your GP and the hospital to how they react but the GP needs to refer you somewhere (unless you are going privet I guess) so they are the starting point. (I hope that made scene, lol) :flower:

Yogurt, I really would go have a talk to your GP about it all. It does not sound like pregnancy but if you are feeling ill and have some sort of new growth then it really does need checking out. It could be as simple as a food intolerance but it is better safe than sorry.

so you think i should go to a GP first? Sorry what does that stand for again?
