..but not get a period when BFing? I would REALLY love any advice on this. I am not pg, definitely ovulated...but AF is missing!

I have PCOS, so keeping a track of things is vital.

Am sure I heard that sometimes this cuold happen, but not if I am making that up now!!

Thanks :flower:

^^
What she said. Yes, you can!

I always thought that if you ovulated then you had to menstruate afterwards, and that the first time you ovulate would be before the first AF. I guess a dip in oestrogen could cause ovulation and a subsequent rise could cause the oestrogen to continue to support the lining of the womb.

How do you know you ovulated?

I've been a mini-expert since TTC for DD :D(with PCOS) I have a CBFM, but came to realise what symptoms I had meant I was ovulating...and I had them all. Am pleased to see something is working (and I've had a couple of visits from AF)...but then with no period post ovulation, was a bit stumped

Thanks, all - that gives me some hope!

That's good to hear.

Are you ttc too TG? I really want to get pregnant again but so far no sign of AF. When did yours come back?:flower:

I think it largely depends on the PCOS - if it comes back with a vengeance, would be nice to start before!

AF came back, I think, at around seven months...but I've only had two!! I think it came back as DD dropped from continual night nursing to one or two feeds.

It's very unreliable, though...However, I've found out I've got two buddies who are both pg and both BFing loads...so obviously not natures 'fool proof' contraception! :haha:

Wait, I did LOTS of research when I was ttc for a year and I was nearly certain that if you ovulate you always have a period 12-16 days later. I have read, espeically with PCOS, that's it's possible for your body to gear up to ovulate (rise in estrogen followed by LH surge), but sometimes not actually release an egg. That's why some people get EWCM and positive opks multiple times in a cycle (I did before getting pregnant), but usually you don't get the basal temp rise until you actually release an egg. Anyway, I thought once you did actually ovulate, a period always followed (unless you are pregnant).

I do understand that when BF, it's possible to ovulate when you haven't had a period YET, but I thought if this were to happen to you, you would have a period after that ovulation. I know people get pregnant without having any period, so I presumed they caught on the first ovulation. Are you ladies saying you can continue ovulating, cyclically or multiple times, without having a period afterwards (and not pregnant)?

Yes, you can ovulate while BF and not get a period and not be pregnant.
