My lo absolutely hated her Moses basket and just wouldn't settle in there at all. I am thinking of putting my new lo straight into a cot - obviously next to me in my room. Is this a big no no and are there any safety reasons?
I dont really want to fork out for a Moses basket if I dont have too.

Should not be a problem. Just make sure there is no loose bedding, pillows, soft bumpers, toys, etc. Just put a fitted sheet on the mattress and dress baby appropriately for the temperature. A fitted swaddle wrap, or a newborn sleep sack are safe to use for extra warmth. I actually started putting mine in his own room for naps at 1-2 weeks, and he quickly moved to sleeping there overnight before he was a month old (with a sound monitor). He was a weirdly independent little guy (still is), and everyone slept better that way.

Nope, plenty of babies go straight into a cot, if I could fit one in my bedroom so would mine! DS went into a crib and this one will hopefully just be in a Moses basket as the crib got damaged when we moved house. As long as guidelines are followed there shouldn't be an issue :)

No problem there. My sons cot has different height settings and the highest is for newborn babies. Like a pp said, so long as there is nothing in the cot that could pose a risk there's no difference really. Only problem might be if baby isn't in a sleeping bag or swaddle etc they might get their feet between the bars if they manage to wriggle down. Not dangerous really but my son had this issue when he was in a rocking crib and learnt to roll over and it would wake him up. I guess you could use a mesh liner if you read up and feel comfortable with them but that's really upto you.

Of course you can :) my 1st did as i had no room for a bassinet in my room from him. I slept on the floor in his room for 6 weeks. And had a baby monitor with movement sensors under the mattress for when i could no longer sleep on the floor lol

Thanks all 😃 I was thinking you probably could but thought I would double check.

I plan to do this unless we get given a moses basket or crib by someone for free. You only use the moses basket for such a short time that I don't really see the point of buying one. We also have a cot where you can adjust the height and the highest level is for newborns. I plan to use baby sleeping bags unless it's too hot as the baby will be born in July.

My LO is going into a crib :) which looks like her cot but smaller... That probably doesn't help, haha!

Yes it's fine. Make sure their feet is at bottom of bed so they can't wriggle down under their sheets. Also, it's not recommended to use a duvet either.
