Hello ladies,
I've had this weird yellowish green dripping and spotting for a week now.. .and when I went to the doc, not the OB, he did a PAP on me and said I have a Vaginal infection and prescribed Canesten.

But On the box of it says, don't use if you are pregnant until you talk to a doctor.

It's a cream that I need to insert into my Vagi. I've used it once so far and I am still concerned that this might get to the baby... Although the doc did say it's safe whle pregnant..

has anyone else used this while they were pregnant or know if it's ok to use??

Thanks,

as long as its a cream and not a pessary, then your fine. theres no way that it can get to the baby as there is a very thick mucus plug which you lose when your in labour (the bloody show its called) and dont forget baby is in its own little amniotic sac too, completely isolated from the world. x

I had a clotrimazole pessary for thrush prescribed by the gynae registrar and was fine, I also worried at the time as it said 'not for pregnant women, and to ask dr'.:thumbup:

Yes I have been prescribed it a few times by my doctor during this pregnancy and it is absolutely fine. The cream isn't for internal use just external on the lips of your vagina and the surrounding area. If it is an internal infection he would have prescribed you the cream and the pessary to insert the tablet directly into your vagina. Don't worry about the cream coming into contact with baby because your baby is protected in the womb :) xx

Well the one he prescribed is the cream and the pessary... It's like a long stick that have to stick it in all the way then push in the cream....
I felt really nervous using it as I was thinking what if it get to the baby.....

But I guess since the doc OKed it... should be fine.... plus, it's probably better than having the infection....

Thanks ladies...

A pessary to push in cream?? Are you sure there isn't a tiny wee tablet in the box? I have never heard of that one x

Butting in from 3rd tri . . .

My doc also prescribed this for me, I used it and haven't had a problem since. I also worried because it said 'speak to dr before use during pregnancy' but apparently he isn't the only to think it's fine. One dr. might be wrong but a whole bunch of them??

Good luck, I hope you get rid of it soon!

I don't think the cream is meant to go internally. It's for external use. There would be a seperate tablet you insert into the pessary

If the doctor says it's safe then go with it. I've used over-the-counter meds for yeast infection this pregnancy by doctor's recommendation. It's safe.
