WTF!!! i just cant believe it, after having ovarian drilling in july, dr said that if it does not work then ivf is the only option, i can have a couple of rounds of clomid (although not sure when) and that we will have to pay for ivf as i have 10 year old dd.

so i have ov once since OD and nothing since, been doing bbt and opks and nothing, because i was clomid resistant before OD i am not holding out much hope for it, so thought it best to look into ivf now

because i have had abnormal smear she said i cannot have it, i didnt even mention that i had loop diathermy. i have to have 3 years of normal smears before im allowed

i just cant believe it!! so it looks like thats almost it for us now, absolutely nothing left to do by xmas time, we have no options left! im in shock :nope:

Hey bumski
I'm sooo sorry. Didn't want to read and run....

Is that a general guideline? NO IVF with abnormal papsmear? Would it make a difference if solved the problem for the abnormal papsmear??? Hmmm...I dunno dear...I'm sooo sorry. Really.:hugs:

thanks for replying hun, really dont know if its a standard thing, she just run through some questions on the phone when i was enquiring and said i have to have atleast 3 years of NORMAL smears, i only had my latest in august, even if everything was fine i would be nearly 33 and my daughter would be nearly 14, i cant wait for another 3 years, also if i got another abnormal in that time the thought of it putting me back to square one is unbearable!

i just never knew this

omg Bumski, Im so incredibly sorry.
I dont know what to say.
Id defo try the Clomid for now as it cant hurt and you never know maybe the OD did enough for it to help? :hugs:

Sorry to hear this. Have you spoken to any other clinics for a second opinion?

I'm afraid I don't know anything about this, but I've seen some posts online which suggest that getting an 'all clear' smear 6 months after an abnormal one gives a much better chance of starting IVF much sooner.

Perhaps the best thing to do would be to get another smear done in another 4 months time and go from there.

The NICE guidelines may have some more info on this also.

Hopefully you can get some clearer answers.

Best of luck to you :flower:

I haven't heard of this hun. But is it possible to get another clinics opinion. It seems very hard to believe and of course very upsetting.

:hugs:

Bumski, I'm so sorry to hear but I'm going to go with some of the other suggestions and get a second opinion. I'm wishing you the best!

i think i will definatley ring some other clinics, it just completely threw me, we were never really thinking about ivf but the closer it comes to it being our only option the more i was coming round to it, it just makes me wonder why it makes a difference

Hello Bumski,

If what you say is true for all clinics, it is shocking! I have just been to see my gynae/fertility dr at the hospital in Cheltenham and she asked me loads of questions, so she knows I am waiting for a loop di after an abnormal smear (CIN3) but when she announced 'you are only going to conceive by IVF' she did not say, 'but you will have to wait untill 3 years after a normal smear or even 6 months after'.

So, if it is true, I have been mislead!! :dohh:

I am sorry that they have told you this, keep us posted in case you do get a second opinion.....

Amanda :hugs:

i didnt want to read this and not say anything this is something i know nothing about but want to say if i were you i would definatly speak to someone else and find out if this is in the guidelines good luck

can't believe it, that would be so mean!

hope you get a different opinion from other hospitals!
or is there any chance you can switch and not mention the abnormal smear?

i had never heard this either, its one thing after another,
it was also fs who suggested ivf to me, saying that if the OD doesnt work its our only option, as i have not ov since 14 days after the op its looking like we need more help. do they not check their records?

i didnt mention to the clinic about the loop diathermy, she just said i have to have 3 years of clear smears before we can go ahead. im wondering though, because loop diathermy is a treatment, that once its done there should be no more problems

will definatly look into this more,

thanks for advice girls, just shocks me how much my stupid body cannot do the simplist of things :dohh:

^^ that depends, my FS has his info on me from me and my gp, not from my old gyno.
or you can also say you'll transfer your own files, you ask for a copy of your files,
take out what you don't want them to know and hand that over, most likely they will not check further,
worth a shot

well i have contacted a couple of different clinics and explained my situation, as far as most of them are concerned as long as my most recent smear is clear all should be fine, i will be due for my next smear in 6 months so hopefully all will be well on that side, as im guessing thats when we will have to move forward if clomid fails again.
really dont know why some clinics want 3 years of clear results and some dont.
does anyone know why this is?

I think it may be down to the risk of abnormal cells requiring treatment - most places would be reluctant to treat you if you were pregnant.

I'm not 100% sure though.

Good news that other clinics will do it after the next clear smear. :)

Hey, ladies. I had a loop procedure 10 years ago with the all clear ever since. Lo and behold, in June, I had another abnormal requiring a colpo. Well, they did not need to biopsy but said to come back in 4-6 mos (which would be november time frame). But, in the meantime, they have given me the go ahead for ivf. Please note that with my first daughter, I became pregnant only18 mos after my loop and my doc said, if necessary, they could treat and would just use curretage. I'd recommend a different fs if at all possible. Good luck!
