I had an episiotomy and stitches on Saturday and I know it wasn't long ago but I am in so much pain. I can't sit, and can hardly sit on the loo. I'm sure I'm partly swollen on one side but the midwife who looked this morning said it looked fine.
I can't walk properly, my bum hurts too and I can't bear to do a poo.
I also feel like I have cystitus.

Anyone had the same? I am in tears and don't know what to do with my self.

When i had me eldest i felt exactly like that.

I had 15 stitches and it was bloody awful.

Drink loads of water and cranbery juice.

Bathe in salt water.

Try and have pees in the shower, put the shower head on your bits to relieve the stinging

As for a poo have some fiborgel to soften it u and some ripe fruit.

When you need to sit, sit on a hard chair so its easier to get up and get a rubber ring and sit on that so your bits are not under pressure.

Also this works as well. https://www.mothercare.com/gp/produ...?ie=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=68660031&mcb=core

Aw Hun I totally feel for you. I had episiotomy too and the way you describe it is exactly how I felt. Only this week I have started to feel improvement and it still doesn't feel the same down there yet. I would just say having a warm bath helped me loads and I have been sitting on pillows for weeks. Also painkillers helped. Just rest and try to take it easy x

rest rest rest. the pain does get worse before it gets better. Keep the area clean and dry (use a hairdryer to dry down there after a bath as towels are stupidly painful) I had a salt baths everyday to help keep thewound clean. Mine ended up infected so had to have antibiotics. It does get better but just don't push yourself too hard too quickly!!!

My daughter was born the same day as Delamere19 and like her I am only just feeling right (well as right as you can be after someone has cut down there!).

Huge hugs mrs, hope you feel better soon.\

Oh you poor thing :hugs: Don't forget that at 4 days after the birth, you are also super-emotional and teary. It's a difficult time.

v2007 is spot on. I was prescribed something called 'Movicol', don't know if you get it in the UK, it's a stool softener. I should imagine that fibregel would have the same effect.

I was also told that walking/sitting on hard chairs was good and would help me feel better faster, YMMV. I'm glad that the midwife took a look and you know there's no infection at this stage. Don't be afraid to feel a bit sorry for yourself, it's a difficult time and it's ok to have a cry.

:hugs:

Did you not get given painkillers, anti inflamatries and fybergel??? My hospital sent me home with hods and luckily I never had a problem, yes it was unconfortable for a few days but I had no pain, they also gave me 2 lots of anti biotics to take too!!
I would get to the Dr's and ask for some diclofenac, fybergel and lactulose. The diclofenac helped me loads, you may not be swollen on the outside but you probably are on the inside, also bathe in tea tree oil, its brilliant x

I was in agony when i had an episotomy with my first. I had a few days where i just couldnt bare to sit down at all. Just keep topped up with painkillers and as others have said get yourself some fybogel or lactulose or even both. Going for a poo wont be as bad as you imagine i promise x

Lavender oil in a bath helps stitches heal.... just dont sit in the bath for long periods of time as this can make the stitches dissolve too quickly.

keep taking your painkillers regularly i thought i was smart one day went out not taking them and i was in so much pain by the end of the dday was horrible i couldnt sit down couldnt stand up i jus wanted to cry and have loads of baths just enough for you ti sit in doesnt need to be a proper bath ill pass soon def keep taking the laxatives i stopped them aswell and tbh going to the loo was not even worth taking about :hugs: i feel terrible when i hear this xxx

Hi

I had this when I had my little man and felt exactly the same. Have plenty of baths, sit on a rubber ring, keep topped up on painkillers, I was alternating iburprofen and some strong paracetamol based tablet recommended by pharmacist at boots pharmacy just to keep topped up. Also don't do too much, i tried to be superwoman and boy did i suffer. hope u r feeling better soon xxx

i was like this too, had episiotomy and it became infected too.

i was taking painkillers regularly- i would have co codomal and ibuprofen, so cocodomol would be every 6 hours and ibuprofen every 4 hours. But what i did was i would take cocod and a couple of hours later take ibuprofen so i was always at the peak of painkillers working.
also i was taking lactulose, and one thing i would say dont worry about not going for a poo, your body will literally sort itself out.
I couldnt go properly for about 4 weeks, and even now at 5 weeks my body is just getting itself back into rhythm.
and i just stopped worrying.

and take plenty of rest! its a tough time and give yourself time out.

I too had a episiotomy. I know exactly how you are feeling, the pain was just ridiculous and i ended up wishing i had been allowed a c section. Like everyone has said, keep yourself topped up with painkillers. I was taking 8 paracetamol and 4 ibuprofen a day, and if i didnt take them on time, the pain was so bad. I was told by a scbu nurse not to use a rubber ring, as it can slow down the healing time and that salt baths do not help at all, this is just a old wives tale and plain water is best. I know everyone says rest but i think i healed so quick because i started moving around quick. Whilst i was staying in hospital i didnt move far, and the pain never eased the whole 6 days i was there. Once i got home, i started doing washing and tidying, and my husband got me out and about walking round town and i felt so much better but i guess this is different for everyone! I have felt completely healed and normal for about 12 days now, but at the time i thought i would never be normal again. I dreaded going for a poo, and didnt go for 8 days and it def wasnt as bad as i expected, by then it was just a huge relief! I really would see your doctor incase you have a urinary tract infection and not cystitus. Really hope you feel better soon x

Thanks so much everyone! I went to my GP and he was shocked that the hospital had given me nothing! I now have proper painkillers, anti biotics, anti inflammatories and stool softners! I feel so much better!

Glad you feel better sweetheart, I would write a letter of complaint to the hospital for sending you home with nothing!!!

glad you've got it sorted!

I remember the only reason why i think i got anything was because i asked!! i really dont know if i would have got anything otherwise!

Apparently it's standard practice according to the midwife who came to visit me.. They only give you stuff to take home if you have a c-section. In her words "if you have a tear or episiotomy they expect you to walk home"!!

I must of been lucky with my hospital, they gave me a massive bag full of stuff!!
