On Saturday night I was involved in a pretty bad car accident - I was the passenger and we were hit on my side before being pushed across the road, hitting a lamp post and the car ended up tilted on its side.

I am fine physically just a little sore around my neck/back and a gash on my arm and I went to A&E where i eventually got a midwife to check my baby and I heard the heartbeat for the first time. She took a while to find it which was a bit scary but she said everything sounded great. The doctor told me to look out for pain, bleeding or decreased movements.

The reason I am stressing is I am only 19 weeks with my first - I think for the last 2/3 weeks I've been feeling movement but they are quite light/weak and not very often. Now I'm starting to panic as I haven't felt anything all last night or today.

Is my baby ok in there? surely if they found a good heartbeat a few hours after the accident then something can't have suddenly happened since then? I've had no pain or bleeding at all.

Please help to reassure me - not got my 20 week scan until I'm almost 21 weeks so still a while to go.

Hi, I didn't want to read and run, but I would say if ur still that concerned I'd go back to maternity or hospital and express ur concerns and they will give u another check over! Ur probably being more anxious now since the accident so ur probably not feeling baby when they are perfectly fine, but I would go just to put ur mind at rest! That's what their there for, to keep us calm and collected.

Hope all goes well and I'm sure it's something about nothing. Just for ur peace of mind, cuz if ur anything like me I wouldn't rest until I heard little one.

Xx

Hi! So sorry you got into an accident, I know how horrible & scary they can be! I would go have it checked out again. You can never be too careful when it comes to your LO, and a car crash is pretty serious! :hugs: Wishing you a speedy recovery & I hope everything is ok with your baby!!

I'm sorry you had to go through this! Sounds awful! Like others have mentioned I would just go and get checked again, it's better to be safe than sorry, I'm sure they would have no problem with the fact you have concern! :flower:

Hi fafa. Im sorry you had this happen. Its awful being injured especially while pregnant. I was in a car accident too when I was 8 months along. My tummy hit the center consol of the car as I was hit from the side. I went I to early labor. So they monitored me for hours.Labor finally stopped. I went on to have a perfectly healthy baby. I was even hurt pretty badly. I ended up with a herniated disc and nerve damage in my legs. So the rest of my pregnancy was very painful. My daughter was born on time , and she was so perfect. And very smart as well. She could read books (anything) at 4, knew abc's by 2 and knew math including fractions by 4 as well. There was'nt much padding or cushioning between baby and my consol and she turned out great. Your baby has much more cushioning right now. And they found a good strong hb. And if the baby had been in distress they would have told you for sure. But it never hurts to make a call to the midwife , they may sant to see you to check things out.:hugs: let us know if you end up going in?

Ring EPU and tell them since the accident you havent had as much movement and get checked out.

I'm sure baby is just fine but it will put your mind at rest and you can relax and continue to enjoy your pregnancy! xx

your baby should be ok huni but if your worried just rind up maternity and tell them you have not felt any movements since the accident. tey should get you checked over and possibly scanned <3 xxx

If you're concerned, I would go and get checked out and ask for a scan.

I was in a car crash early on on pregnancy and LO was absolutely fine. They are very well protected in there. I know how you feel though, I couldn't rest until I had seen on the screen jumping around.

I agree with all the above I would go get checked if your worried, it won't do any harm and I'm sure baby is just fine x

Usually when people are asking if decreased movement between 17-24 weeks is normal I generally say for sure! Baby is still small for 19 weeks. BUT, considering you've been in an accident it couldn't hurt to get checked out again. Go in and tell them you've been experiencing decreased movement. It sounds like everything is fine, but you don't want to beat around the bush when it comes to accidents.

thank you all so much for your replies - they have really helped to put my mind at rest.

I am a lot more calm now and have felt some movements over the last few days - my movements before the crash were very light and not very often so it probably is just as normal.

I have my 20 week scan a week tomorrow so I'm just going to wait until this and have the positive thoughts that everything is fine. Looking at the facts - I heard the heartbeat, I have no pain or bleeding - baby must be very happy in there :)
