Car seats

ff babies can go in the front seat even with the airbag on but it is recomended to turn it off. Rf carseats in the front must have the airbag off because it will come out and hit the back of the carseat. So with the airbag on you may only Ff but with it off you can Rf or Ff.

Thanks for the info jane99....

I didnt realize the 'standard test' which needs to be met by UK seats are at such low speeds?! Its terrible. People think they are buying a 'safe' carseat as it meets the UK safety requirements...but are never told these 'standards' are incredibly feeble?!

I myself, have gone with an extended RF seat from Sweden. The Britax Multi-Tech, it is a great carseat. It has extra head side-impact protection, and the shell grows with your child. It will last her from now (9months) until the age of 7. And she can RF until 4...im very happy i did some research into it...

xbabybumpx -it frightens the life out of me too...I just wish more parents realized. Could save their baby's spine :nope:

You're welcome. Likewise, I researched before I bought a car seat.

Just to correct whoever said it is about weight/height more than age - they MUST be at least 9 months AND 20lb to go FF, it is about their development. They must fulfil both criteria.

When I asked at mothercare they said whatever comes first - 9kg or 9 months.

I would like to hear the response to ur question too hun.

I need to get Eva a bigger one soon.

Are the ones from 6 months plus all forward facing as I put Eva in the front in her current one as it rear facing and I can turn the air bag off.

Do the forward facing ones have to go in the back seat?

Hiya I've found a couple on mothercare website that are combination seats so they start as rear facing till baby is around 10-13 kgs then it can turn into a forward facing one it was a Britax I think it was called was £140 reduced to £100 & last till they're around 4..... I think this is what I may go with!

I'm not sure about the last question, I'm pretty sure they do if they can ie you don't have a 2 seat car but hopefully someone else will give you a better answer on that!

x

I got the britax! It arrived today and is a bargain at £100

Tried it out in mothercare and it can be rear facing up to 20lb I think

A lot of ladies on here recommended it :)
xx

Ooooooo possibly lol

I know it can be rear facing until baby is 18 months and it's a Britax one.

I'm very excited but it's downstairs in the box as it was too dark and wet to fit it tonight :haha:
xx

This is the link and it's up to 15 months not 18 ;)

Its approx though, I'd go more by weight. Ava is 1 in Dec and only 21lbs, No way will she gain 7lb in 5 months! shes not gained anything in like 3 months, So long as her head is at the appropriate place height wise she can stay RF till the weight limit. (13KG)

Yeah I'm going totally by weight too

I want Evie to stay rear facing for as long as possible.

Those videos posted about RF and FF were very chilling.

DH said he wanted FF so evie could look out the window but I explained about how safe RF was and he quickly changed his mind

Daisys coming up to 10 months and only 17lb but lenght wise is almost out of her infant carrier, its giving me a headache what the right move is for us. I already know we are doing ERF but thats as far as I get! x

Its a tough choice hayley, Why not go into a local pram centre and have a look? Maxi cosi have just got a new ERF seat out, as does Volvo-its the ritax Multi Tech like twiggy has but its volvo make and half the price.

Thing is, The babies will only grow to have your opinion on the seats and the way they sit in the car, If theyve never sat FF then they wont know the difference. If all theyve ever done is RF they will accept it. your your childs biggest influence at the end of the day! :D

thanks purple :flower:

Just googled and theres a carseat safety centre in MK near me which has a range of ERF seats :happydance: x

hails definitely go to the carseat safety place near you...you're really lucky to have one close enough to actually go and fit an ERF seat in so you can get confirmation its fitted correctly AND you can try out to see what gives you the most foot space/long enough for your seatbelts!

The one in MK is v popular with people who want to ERF! People travel hundreds of miles to go! you are lucky your so close!! have fun! :D

we only have a Ford Focus so I'm already worrying cause the seatbelts are ridiculously short :( I pray they have one suitable, already told hubby we will be buying a new car if not or we just wont travel anywhere!

what was the one you got in the end twigs? x

Hayley have you contacted them on carseat.se? They can actually tell you which ones will work in your car if you can't find one in a shop by you
