CD 77 - is it worth bothering with BBT temps + OPKs now?

Right, my BBT thermometer has arrived! And my cheapy ovulation sticks, and some cheapy HPT strips.

Last pregnancy test was on CD 74 (3 days ago) BFN obviously. I wasn't gonna do the whole tracking/temping/charting thing 'cause I was just gonna 'go with the flow'. But there's been no flow!!

Came off BCP in oct, TTC since then. Had a withdrawl bleed, 77 days since then. Being brief 'cause I've ranted about all this before!!

Well now I have my ovulation tester thingys, I was wondering is there any point now? I did read one woman said she ovulated as late as CD 70 and then had a BFP on CD 86! Which is why I bought this stuff lol!

Am I being too hopeful? Anyone got any advice??

Xx

This far into a cycle you need to go to your midwife or OB/Gyn to get some progesterone/Provera to induce AF. If you haven't O'd yet, it is highly likely you need to reset things if you want to O any time soon. One round of Provera may kick your body back into gear and get you O'ing again.

Women who get pregnant late in their cycle are women who generally have super long cycles, not women who are coming off of BC. If you didn't have super long cycles before you start the BCP, then your body is probably out of whack and may need a little help righting itself.

If you start temping as soon as you get the Provera/progesterone you will be able to see what a post-O rise looks like (because the Provera imitates the post-O phase). Once you finished the pills, you will see your temp drop (this can take several days) and then your period should start. When you start your period you can temp in earnest and after your period ends you can start using your OPK's!

If you need help with the temping/charting, here is a guide I wrote a while back: https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/t...did-o-ladies-ovulation-bbt-temping-guide.html

Thanks for the tips :) hopefully I can get an appointment with a doctor next week. Before BC I had 28 day cycles, they were never a day late! It's so annoying when friends of mine have come off BCP and got pregnany within the first month! I don't even know if I've ovulated that's the problem. I've joined the Fertility Friend site, and I've been uploading info about symptoms + CM on the chart - they can't predict anything without OPK results anyway. But my CM has been SO watery since start of Nov, something it's never been before. So much so that I'm convinved AF has come along, but its just excessive CM :-/ and Fertility Friend reckons this is 'Fertile' but I don't understand, as I'm getting BFNs so I'm assuming I'm not pregnant :-/ with the symptoms I'm having, a few weeks ago I would've bet money on me being pregnant. But now I'm so discouraged :(

It really sounds like your hormones are completely out of whack. If you normally have 28 day cycles, 77+ days without AF is something that really needs to be checked out.

All that fertile CM can be caused by your estrogen level skyrocketing with you body trying to get your ovaries to rev up again Using the Provera to induce AF resets all those hormone levels. You can even ask to have blood drawn on CD3 to confirm that everything has gone back to normal.

Many women do get back to normal cycles right after getting off BC, but so many don't. (I'm sorry you're in that latter category, I was too.) Sometimes you just have to kick start things. After I got off the patch I missed my period for several months. I wasn't trying to get pregnant, so I didn't do anything about it. I had found out that the BC was causing issues for me (fatigue/depression/flu-like-symptoms) and had to stop using it after a few years of constant use. My cycle finally did come back, but it took forever! If I was TTC, that time length would not have been acceptable to me at all.

Good luck at the doctor! If you still feel like there is any chance you could be pregnant, you can have them run a blood pregnancy test just before you start on the Provera. :flow:

Hang in there Kath! I'm in the same boat. I have an appt with my dr for this coming week. Took me 4 weeks to even get an appt!!! from my calculations, I'm well over cd100  I'm hoping I'll get something to kick start my cycles. I've started taking some vitamins too that supposedly help hormonal imbalances. I just couldn't stand doing nothing while waiting to see my doctor. I'm just hoping she'll prescribe something and not have to refer me to a specialist - that will take several weeks more. I had taken many hpt before realizing my cycles were just out of whack. I'm not doing OPK until I have an af. Hoping I'll make progress this week (fx)

I found this herbal supplement that is supposed to regulate cycles - it has a bunch of stuff in it: chaste tree (vitex), skullcap, raspberry leaf, wild yam, milk thistle.. maybe one other thing but I forget. Anyway it totally brought af back after my epic 40 day cycle post-bcp. Good luck!

Be careful about herbal supplements. They can sometimes mess things up even more. I had mild PCOS (didn't know it though) and started taking FertilAid (contains Vitex/Chaste Tree Berry and other things) and it took my mild PCOS and turned it into full blown, severe, debilitating PCOS. I went from a 32-36 day cycle to not ovulating at all. It took my midwife and RE several months to even figure out what was going on and once they did, it took even longer to get me ovulating again. Because of taking a stupid herbal supplement I didn't O from March 2012 to November 2012. The insane hormone flux also caused me to develop really bad insulin resistance (gained 40 lbs over the course of a month) and now I have to take medication for the rest of my life. (I probably had low grade insulin resistance before, but it was the kind that would lead to diabetes. What I have now is bad enough that it could.)

Turns out that chast tree berry (Vitex) increases your progesterone levels and does a number on your bodies hormone balance. Most women this can possibly help with fertility (gives a longer luteal phase) and helps to regulate estrogen (this type of estrogen and progesterone problem is the most common hormone issues common in our society due to our diets). However, if that is not your issue, the increase in progesterone can actually stop ovulation altogether because your body thinks it has already ovulated. It can also mess up your ovaries and other hormone producing areas. When I stopped taking the supplements in May of 2012, I went through progesterone withdrawal. The drop wasn't enough to give me a period, but it did give me an entire month+ of heavy spotting. I have been sick ever sense and it will most likely be a long road to full recovery.

Anyway. Just be careful with that stuff. Vitex is actually a very powerful supplement and you should not take it if you don't know what your hormone levels are.

Thanks for all your comments :) kellerbells, we sound like we're in the same boat-ish! Whennnn will we get our AF's?? It's so irritating. I always used to hate getting AF, but now I'm desperate!!!! It usually takes me a while to get a doctors appointment, but I'll definitely ring next week, and fingers crossed they can see me soon! I think I'll see what the doc says before taking any suppliments. I'm almost out of my folic acid now, had 3 months + its been almost 3 months of TTC already! I just wonder whether I have actually ovulated at any point, or has our BDing been a waste of time lol!

Kellerbells, let us know how u get on at the docs! I hope u get answers soon!!

Thanks guys, CD 79 and still nothing - here's hoping we all get the BFPs we're hoping for soon. I'll be tamping if I don't get one this year lol!! Xx

I'm glad you posted this!! 3 months ago i came off the pill and my cycle was 40 then 42 and now I'm CD 75. I have had similar symptoms like with a lot of mc thinking it was my period even!! But other day I got EWCM.

I have seen my doctor and he said its normal as think maybe stress related. He did bloods tests and my results came normal apart from one hormone level was slightly high but normally means u are middle your cycle about to O. So he said as I don't know whether I am middle my cycle or not to just be safe he will order more blood tests after I had my period and if its dropped then its fine, normally other hormone levels would have been high Aswell but they weren't luckily in my case.
All I can say, go doctors, tell them and demand a blood test for PG and other things. They normally don't do tests until u missed ur period for 6months as it is very common appernetly for woman to miss their periods for 2/3 nearly 4 months or more and there be nothing wrong.
