Cervix Shortening?

Does anyone know if it's normal for your cervix to shorten some in a couple of weeks? At 10 weeks I saw the measurement of 3.94cm and today (12 weeks) it was 3.7. The MFM didn't mention anything about it, but I'm concerned it has gone down. Is it normal for it to change a bit at this point? (I'm having twins also, if that makes a difference.)

Hello Amjon! I know the weight of twins can cause pressure on the cervix. I went from 5mm at 19 weeks to 2.4mm at my 21week scan. I was shocked to say the least. I hope your cervix doesn't get any shorter but make sure they are keeping a close eye on you. All the best with the pregnancy. x

I already see a MFM every 2 weeks, so I'm sure if it becomes an issue she'll put a cerclage in. I was just concerned it's already going down.

I had my cervix measure at 13 weeks and it was 2.7cm I was horrified. I had it checked again at 16 weeks and it was 3.2cm and stayed this way until my last cerical length scan at 24 weeks. My Sonographer told me checking it before about 16 weeks wasn't ideal as the measurement can't be exact due to the cervix bending. The first measurement with you could have being sightly off due to human error as they can't get it exact and it hasn't reduced alot so try not to worry. x

Another thing is, measurements can change minute to minute. Did they take multiple readings or just one? I know I've had a difference of 5mm in just a couple of mins (so 2.8cm and 3.3cm for example). 3.7 is still a good length. Try not to worry unless it gets under 3 (which still isn't bad - mine has been under 3 since 22 weeks) but if you worry too much, you can request A transvaginal scan for reassurance. Abdominal scans aren't very accurate for telling cervix length.
