Hello (also posted in third tri)

I wondered if you ladies could help me (this may be a little long). My 1st labour and delivery 4 1/2 years ago was very long (3 days) from waters breaking to eventually having an EMCS. I lost a lot of blood, had to have 2 blood transfusions, baby didn't breath to begin with and was jaundice for quite a few days following. We were in for a week after she was born altogether. They told me nothing at the time about why things had gone wrong or what was happening and why. Later on my discharge notes I read that baby had been back to back and I had failure to progress as my reason for needing an EMCS (I don't think I got past 2cm).

I was told at the beginning of this pregnancy that I would get to see a consultant to discuss all that had happened before and what I could expect this time around. As it turns out I had an appointment with a hospital midwife not a consultant last week. I stated that I would like to try for a VBAC and she was pleased - that was all she really wanted to talk to me about, it was almost as if she was pushing the VBAC even though I had already said that I wanted one. We didn't really talk about my previous labour although she did ask why it was a EMCS and I said it just said failure to progress then asked if this was because baby was back to back. She didn't give me a straight answer but said that quite often failure to progress once meant it was more likely to happen again!! That did not give me much confidence about a VBAC that she was also trying to push.

What I want to ask you all is - did any of you have a successful VBAC after a FTP first labour and EMCS (Or back to back baby and EMCS first labour) looking to see if this is definitely something I should try or not.

I have no personal experience of a vbac after baby was back to back. But baby being in the "wrong" position often means that the wrong part of their head is engaged and therefore doesn't push on the cervix efficiently, which makes the labour stall. That's what happened with my last and I only very narrowly avoided an EMCS. So I'd think if baby is in the right position this time, there's no reason why your labour should progress normally. There's a few things you can do to help positioning. https://spinningbabies.com is a good resource for this.
