Hey guys,
hoping you can help me out like you did before. My little girl is almost 6 weeks old and has been on Aptimel 1 on and off all the time.It wasnt working so we went to the doctor and asked him to recommend another formula because she had constant reflux and colic. So he told us to try Enfamil AR.We swiched her late last night. The reflux has improved greatly and the Colief is really helping with the colic. My problem is she's having great difficulty pooing. She managed to poo once today and was screaming in agony and it seemed alot stinkier than normal. My question is is this normal when switching formulas? I know the doc said to give it at least 3 days to settle but i aint looking forward to her howls of pain next time she poos  Please help!

My LO had colic and reflux too, and we changed to C+G comfort
Constipation is normal when switching formulas.
My HV advised trying to give cooled boiled water between milk feeds, or a TINY bit of pure apple juice( ask your HV, not sure what age that can be used from)

is the new formula high in iron? Sometimes that can cause constipation problems.

We had this exact same problem with Phoebe and her poo's when she was on aptimil, it was a nightmare becuase she was constantly straining and seemed to be in so much pain. We tried a few different milks but they didn't agree with her, we finally settled on Cow and gate and she has been pooing without any problems for the past 5 weeks and now goes once a day as opposed to once every 4-5 days.

Pooping every 4-5 days? My Gos i'm freaking out cause my LO hasn't pooped going on 25 hours and is obviously in alot of distress.Am i right in worrying cause it's been so long?

i wouldnt worry too much, but obivously you no whats regular for your LO.

I had to change Sophia's formula from SMA when she was 3 months old, she suffered terribly with colic, the Dr and HV kept insisting to stick with the SMA but I followed my instincts and changed her anyway, I put her on C&G and it improved things so much for her, I wish I'd not listened to the Dr's advice for as long as I did!
Sophia struggled with constipation for the first few days, her digestive sytem had to get used to the new formula, she soon settled down on it and the constipation wasn't a worry soon after.

I have just changed Archie's formula to C&G Comfort. He was on Aptimil and had really bad wind and staining to do a poo. Wish I had changed sooner as Archie is so much happier....when hes not moaning...LOL

My midwife told me previously that babies can go up to a week without pooing and as long as it isn't solid, then they're not constipated and it's nothing to worry about.

Also spoke to my HV about crying whilst pooping because my LO seemed to be very uncomfortable whilst going and she basically echoed what my MW said... as long as they are going and its not solid then they don't care

She did give some advice to try and encourage her to go.. She advised to massage her stomach during the day, but don't actually move your hand, just move the skin underneath and bring both knees up to her stomach in a bicycle motion and also the cooled boiled water.

I had the same prob with Adrhianna but she was on SMA GOLD and she had terrible colice i changed to aptimil, and its alot better for her , she has always cried when having a poo though i think its normaal to get consipated for a few days, as it has to adjust to their bodies.
