Changing your babies name.....when its 6 months old??

I wanted to change Caitlyn to Caitlin because people kept asking me how to spell it, then I realised I'd still get asked so what's the point!

lol torr i totally understand where ur coming from people are always trying to spell alys for me they're like oh you mean A-L-I-C-E and im like nope its definately A-L-Y-S! lol

i get so frustrated!! cos then they try pronouncing it elise!!!! grrrrr

Each to their own, I say.

Personally I don't know that I could or would, and having to tell everyone and explain the name change just seems like a lot of hassle.

If I felt really strongly about it, I might perhaps change it so the name I wanted is a middle name, and then call my child by that name, but I'd keep the same first name I originally gave them.

I think it just shows how much of a fashion accessory our children's names have become. In the end, I think a name is just a name and each person makes it their own. If they'd named him something outrageous and regretted it I would have understood, but Ralph isn't that out there so I don't quite understand how it would bug you that much. But there you go, each to their own. Must have been confusing for his 3 year old brother though!

I'd not do it personally, but each to their own...

I think Caitlyn is one of those names that will never get spelt right all the time by other people. My DD1 is Katelyn and she gets it written Caitlin or Kaitlyn a lot, kinda annoying but then we knew when we picked her name we'd/she'd end up having to spell it out a lot. I don't think I've seen another name with so many ways of being spelt!

I don't think I would only because we have had our names chosen for ages now, we only have one boy and one girl name, but I guess after the first baby if we say have a boy, the next pregnancy I'd think of another boys name just in case we had another, so think I'd have time to get used to it. I can't imagine ever choosing a name that 6 months later I'd hate! x

Caitlyn was called Caitlyn from when I was 27 weeks pregnant. She didn't suit her name untill she was about 3 months old. I couldn't call her it. Luckily she did grow into it.

I wouldn't do it personally...and just makes me think of Huxley Pig!

When i was pregnant i wanted to call 'older' twin (the first one to come out) Tara, that was our chosen name for our baby girl, because the other name i had just seemed to fit better to a 'younger' sister .. When they were born it was clear to me that the first twin, tiny but perfect wasn't Tara ..and if i had stuck to my original plan i would've changed the names for sure!
Now they have two gorgeous names that fit them PERFECTLY! Esspecially the littlest tweenie :)

I just can't help thinking it makes the baby seem like a dog or something. She had a good 9 months to decide and a further 6 weeks afterwards... it's really not something that takes the best part of a year. I guess I was lucky because OH chose the name Molly and it's got sentimental value but I can't imagine struggling to find a nice name for that length of time...

If she really didn't like it then I don't see the problem with her changing it before the baby got to really know his name.

Joseph is just over five months old and he does seem to recognise his name but I'm sure if we did change it now he would get used to the new one very quickly.

I am a bit miffed with myself actually because I said all the way through the pregnancy that I wanted to call him Joseph Robert, then thought it might be nice to call him Joseph Paxton Robert after the designer of Crystal Palace and head gardener of Chatsworth House.

But baby-brain must have kicked in because when he was born and I told them his name I completely forget about Paxton and just went with Joseph Robert. It was weeks afterwards that I remembered Paxton.

I might have to pop in to the registry office now and get that added in!

But I thought the baby in the article looked more like a Ralph than a Huxley. He has a very rascally look that suits the name Ralph.

I don't agree though that you can't choose a name until the baby is born. We had ours almost certainly decided before they were born but were waiting until they were born to make those decisions final. Ally's was the biggest change after he was born but Elisabeth and Joseph were always the names we were set on through the pregnancies.

Ally was a happy surprise but after losing him we were trying for Elisabeth and then Joseph and I loved them both before they were even conceived so I don't see why I couldn't know their names before they were born.

I personally couldn't, but I couldn't name my child anything I wasn't 100% sold on in the first place. I spend my entire pregnancy finding a name that fits perfectly, and you've got a few days before you leave the hospital too to get a feel for your babies name. I couldn't imagine it taking 6 months to figure out what your babies name should be.

i dont how you can look at a newborn baby and think it looks like a name Rhys looks nothing like he did the day he was born, you have plenty of time to think of names before baby is born even if you have a couple and choose once its born. but looking at a baby wont help you decide maes me laugh when people say that.

i changed Rosies surname at a yr old when i broke up with her dad.

Both OH and I chose Keira Cariad months before she was born and it just so happens that the name suits her really well, I don't mind the changing aspect but I think you get 9 months of pregnancy and 6 weeks after to choose the perfect name and I personally think that that is long enough ............

I know someone who changed her daughters name when she was about 10 or 11 months, if you do it before they turn one it is pretty simple i believe

I really dont think I could do that. Ive had my name picked for awhile. I already think it fits him. I understand how sometimes a name doesnt fit, but Im very sorry to say that in this case her second name wasnt better then the first, if anything its a bit too odd. Babies start to learn things 2 months or so after being born how can you change their names like that?
