Chewing/Sucking sponges

Whenever I put my son in the bath he immediately grabs the sponge that's in there and puts it in his mouth. hes done it for months now. I never thought anything of it until tonight when he literally screamed when I took him out the bath and took his sponge off him I felt so bad. Im not sure if hes biting it or sucking it but he likes it wet. when all the water has drained out of it he pops it back in the water swirls it round then puts it back in his mouth. does anyone else have any experiences of this or any advice? x

My lb loves sucking water from the bath sponge its funny to watch him, he sucks water ten shakes his head so hes flinging water from sponge (re dipped lol). These worse things he could do, it wont harm them

We use washcloths in the tub.... Megan and now Jordan both loved to suck the water out. Favorite thing in the tub.

Cold water on washcloth is also great for teething.

Hes got all his teeth which is why I couldn't understand why he liked chewing them lol

It's just a fun texture experience I think. Jordan is obsessed ... It's her favorite tub toy.

Your 15 mo old has all their molars and canines already? We are going through it now... Can't wait til we are done with teeth!

yep every single tooth he cut his last 2 which were his top fangs last month....when he was teething he got 4 teeth at a time! was HELL!! so glad its over and done with now

My two both love sucking the water out of facecloths in the bath. Thomas still does it sometimes at 3.5 years although he might be copying Clara. Clara also loves putting her face in the water and lapping it up like a cat.

My LO does this too and I actually remember doing it myself when I was little. I sometimes think LO does it because she's thirsty though so I'll offer her a drink of water just in case.

I remember doing it as a child too!

The only thing I made sure to do is clean the cloths they use regularly. We had some sponges which had a polystyrene backing (they came with bath crayons to make cleaning up 'fun' and my youngest sometimes bit them but then one day I looked and there was black mouldy/mildewy stuff growing in the sponge so I threw them away. Yuk! But normal clean ones are fine

Bobby did that for the longest time, I just made sure we changed the cloth regularly. He stopped on his own.

lo just drinks her bath water like a dog... gross child! she used to suck it off the sponge but we dont use them anymore..
