I am 23 weeks pregnant and found out today that my little girl has chicken pox. I have no idea if I have had it and my aunt who is my only living relative does not know either. The midwives have sent off my blood to see if I am immune but if not I will need immunoglobulins but they don't stop you getting chicken pox just try to reduce the severity!

Urgghhh I am so worried. My little girl is fine and it does not seem to be bothering her, she is such a super star.

big hugs. Are they getting the blood results quickly? You need the immuniglobulins within 72 hrs.

I don't have the antibodies, and my son was exposed at daycare during my last pregnancy. I was told if he showed spots, I was supposed to have someone else care for him, and then get to the hospital within 72 hrs.

Good luck!!

Both my son's have recently had this I was tested and luckily immune . But my cousin was tested and wasn't immune she had the shot and didn't get chicken pox .
I'm sure all will be Fine Hun x

The hospital are being pathetic. The midwife said they will have my results either today or Monday which is just useless to be honest. To be honest I think its too late anyway as they are contagious 2 days before any spots show so that would have been Monday so well over 72 hours now.

Hope, my doc said 72 hrs after spots appear, I think they take into account the contagious period before the spots appear. When did the spots appear? Are you having someone else watch her?

Good luck! I would be pestering the hospital today... but I'm good that way hahaha

hello hope..

were you able to get the blood results?

Try not to worry too much, docs will help all they can if they need to. My results took a full week, but I was immune, I swear blind I have never had them so guess I was just lucky. I got a full week off with my son last week because he had them

yeah they say here in Canada that over 99% of the population is immune, that you many have had them without knowing... I think this is why they don't freak out, since most people are immune..so I am just a freak in the less than 1% :) so it's important for me to know and let my docs know... I've even had the vaccine and booster....and still no antibodies... my brother, sister and I all never had them as kids even though we were exposed like crazy...

As my doc said, the risk of something happening is small, but the actual risks if something bad does happen are significant. There is a mom on here right now who's 8 month old may have cyrbral palsy and they think due to her having chicken pox while pregnant.
