I just got a 12 week old chihuahua and he is very nervous he runs under the table anytime you walk towards him!! but he loves a good cuddle when you pick him up.

Any tips on how to stop him being so afraid?

It's a new home for him & it'll take some getting used to.. Just sit down & leave him, put some food out & he should start snooping in his own time x

Also try kneeling right down when you interact with him. Swooping towards him from a great height will seem very scary. Oh, and approach him where he can see you clearly

I have a chihuahua but she's never been nervous really. I bet your baby just needs a little time to settle and get used to his surroundings. A 12 week old chi is so teeny that it must be scary for him at first.

What does yours look like? Mine is a short coated black and tan .

mine is a long coated white and tan with a black mouth. hes a tea cup puppy so he is tiny. i lay on the floor with him tonight and he started to play with my hands

I have a teacup. Go out and buy a sweater, it gives a sense of security. Also here in the US Walmart has a collar made for Chihuahua's with magnets. Pet stores have them as well. Don't try to hard. Let her break the shell on her own. Bribery always helps

You could also try an adaptil collar or adaptil spray on a little bandanna around his neck. Adaptil is a synthetic version of the pheremone produced by the bitch when she nurses her pups and can help dogs feel more settled and secure. I've always used it for foster dogs and when we had our poodle pup and it really helped.

Thanks ladies, we got him a sweater and a coat but hes so spoiled already he will get lots more. he let me walk over to him this morning and pick him up with running away so i think playing with him on the ground helped.

his name is Champ yeah hes alot calmer now still runs every now and again but will sit beside the chair when he wants to be picked up and then snuggles under your chin for ages
