I've read that child benefit is being cut in 2013 to families where one member of the couple earn over £44,000.

Most places are saying that it's just if one member of a couple earns over 44,000, however I read a newspaper article yesterday that said 'if one member of the household earns over 44,000 then child benefit will be cut.'

Does this mean if you live with a parent or whatever who earns that much then you won't get it, even though they're not financially helping you? Or is it likely just a mistake the paper made?

confused  xx

no if you live with you husband or boyfriend and they earn this much you will not recieve it !! does not include other members of the household as they are not finacially responsible for the child .. HTH X

Ah thanks just was reading the sunday express and it said 'if any member of the household earns this much' they must have just got it wrong lol xx

my heart nearly sank when i saw this! .. then saw the 44 thousand bit i'm safe :haha: x

we are porb going to lose it as if OH does mental overtime he just hits about 44k before tax, but its not guaranteed. So will they measure it every year? or is it a case of you hit 44k and bam, no more CB ever?

I thought it was within 6 months - early 2012??:flower:

I would imagine it would be open to assessment every year.

It shouldn't affect me and my OH although I think it's really unfair how it's based on one of you earning 44,000 or over.

So a couple with a combined income of 80K could keep receiving it whilst a couple earning 44K won't get any of it! xx

yes!!! exactly and this is why the government stinks IMHO!

they say the reason is it will cost too much to look at and work out couples combined incomes via HMRC
