child benefit

Hi gonna try and cut a long story short here but basically 3 yrs ago when my son was taking his exams he decided to live with his dad so he could have peace to study so when this happened i ask my ex if he wanted his child benefit,but he told me to keep it as he wasn't paying me the full amount of csa.so just to make sure i phoned child benefit and they told me that because my son was spending time here still and i was still buying his clothes and feeding him that i could still claim unless my ex contacted them asking to claim, now just recently my claim has been recessed with csa and my ex has to pay me a fare bit more than he was he says he is gonna go and claim for that money back from all those years ago,does anyone know if he can do that or if it is gonna cause trouble for me, I'm at my wits ends,why can't he just pay what he owes it is for his kids upbringing after all!

I don't know. I'd assume though that if the child benefit had already told you that you was entitled to the money they paid you, then you won't have a problem with them asking you to pay it back. I hope everything works out for you. xxx

Thank you for ur reply,i suppose it'll work out for the best in the end,its not like i was keeping the money for myself,men make things so god dam complicated sometimes xx

You were honest with the child benefit, so as far as they will be concerned what ever they have paid you so far was only what you was entitled to. xxx

Child benefit won't get involved unless there has been fraudulent behaviour which there doesn't seem to be here.
They will just tell your ex he should have said something back then and that they usually leave it to the parents to decide between them who gets it.

Thanks embob,no there was definitely nothing fraudulent,this is just my ex tryin to be funny because he owes me more money.i told him to claim it back then but he didn't want to,and that little bit of money helped me cloth and feed my eldest when he was here
