Every Christmas we always have pâté for starters, this Christmas I can't have it, so was wondering what all you ladies are having for starters on Christmas Day?

I'm going to my boyfriends parents and whilst they all have prawn cocktail I am having melon :(

my husband always makes lentil soup as a starter so we will have that. My mum & dad make turkey and stuffing, brother does the potatoes, carrots and parsnips, sister does the puddings. This year i will just be steaming the brussel sprouts & that's my contribution (i usually make mulled wine so may llok up a non-alcoholic version!)

Probably wild mushroom soup with a big dollop of creme fraiche. Yahmmy

Prawns are fine, especially if previously frozen. It's only raw seafood which should be avoided

We are having smoked salmon and prawn salad. I can't wait!!

My midwife said prawn cocktails fine. If the prawns have been frozen and defrosted anything in them gets killed during the freezing stage. Just Dont buy them fresh. X

Honey roast parsnip soup! Yum
Devastated I'm not having pâté tho :(

The starters in our house are usually a choice of prawn cocktail, soup or breaded garlic mushrooms.

I had lentil and vege soup yesterday for lunch it was so yummy but it gave me the most stinky gas! I smelt the house out that night, very embarrassing!!!

mulled apple juice is to die for and easy to make as well

We eat so much roast that we just jump right into mains.

Lol.

I don't want starters taking up room that could be filled with parsnips and stuffing! Yum!

Fresh prawns are fine as long as they are cooked and piping hot. The frozen fish thing in the UK is if it's sushi and to ensure any worms/parasites are killed before eating it raw. Prawn cocktail would be fine as long as the mayo in the sauce is made with pasteurised eggs.

We're having a lobster, mango and avocado salad (delish!) to start but a great place to look for recipes is the bbcgoodfood website as loads of ideas on there for starters. Personally I'd do something cold as the starter and that a lot of prep can be done for the day before so its just assembly on the day. There's enough cooking going on with the main course! x

Smoked salmon is always easy too; have a look at all of these https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/recipes/christmas/christmas-smoked-salmon/ x
