Hi girls,

I thought I would start a new thread for the above. As a new user of the above (or at least I will be come CD1 of next cycle) i thought it would be good to have a place we can all discuss the ups and downs of the monitors? I think Clearblue is the most popular/advanced type of fertility monitor, although i know there are persona and boots own types so all welcome to discuss.

My new monitor just arrived yesterday along with sticks the way before, so am keen to start using it. Just reading through the manual at the moment but so excited to start using it. The few women i know to have used it got their :bfp: if not first month then second so hope that will be me soon!

It would be nice to share others opinions or any suggestions for more advanced users to a soon-to-be-newbie??

come and join the monitor gang!!! LOL

Hi

Have been using mine for 4 months now. Never had any luck with opks but I think CBFM is fab!! Easy to use, no hassle at all and is very accurate at picking up ov.

I really like using my CBFM as it gives me more peace of mind as to when I am likely to be more fertile. I did get a BFP when I first used it back in June 08, but had an early loss. However I've used it every month since and still no BFP!!! I also temp and find that my fertile days match up pretty well. At my last gynaecologist appointment she said she was in no doubt that I ovulated and not to waste my time temping and using the CBFM just have plently of bding. In some ways I understand this but the CBFM and temping makes me feel I am doing the most I can to get a BFP and if thats what it takes to make me feel more settled thats what I'll do.

thank you for all your replies girls - onto cd19 of 28 day cycle so nearly there!!! no symptoms so reckon il be CBFM user in no time :)

re-read instructions for the 2nd time and 'think' i understand what im doing.

CBFM works a treat for me just hoping it proves a success twice
It's helped me beat the gynea this month already so no more treatment for me!

thank you for that hunny - heres hoping we are as successful! congrats to u and hubby xxx

I have PCOS and often long irregular cycles. I used my monitor for a couple of cycles and it didn't help much, but now since I'm on my first round of clomid and hope for a more regular ovulation, I reset the monitor and like it much more this cycle. You can check my journal and chart to see the progress :)

I find it very helpful to study the lines on the test sticks too ;) I've also posted pics of them in my journal recently, explaining the lines a bit.

I also find it much more comfortable to pee in a cup and dip the sticks for 15 seconds (make sure you time it properly) instead of peeing on the stick. Just make sure, either way you do it, to hold the stick in a downwards position, place the cap on and put it straight into the monitor. I made a mistake first and waited for the lines to appear and think I got false readings the first cycle I used the monitor.

i too have PCOS - do you think I should bother with one? - don't think I am ovulating, just waiting for appt for bloods to check this.

It could be worth a try my gynea said that i wasn't ovulating based on blood work but thanks to CBFM he's just discharged me as he can clearly see i am ovulating now thanks!

I just realised I still have my spare one i'm trying to sell if anyone wants it!

great to see this is a helpful thread - all advice is fab. AF is due a week today so just a waiting game now! x

hi Phexia, i'm also using the cbfm and been trailing thru your diary for the pics of the sticks, any chance you can explain again what the different shade of lines actually mean? thank you, good luck with your peak :happydance::happydance:

Yes, no problem. Check my picture, I attached it.

The line on the right measures estrogen. It doesn't work like the lines on an OPK because in fact the line gets LIGHTER as estrogen is higher! Also there's no comparison line. You can see the line getting lighter, and very light on CD 15 and 16. That means estrogen is surging.

The line on the left measures the same hormone as an OPK, the luteineizing hormone or LH. As you can see, on CD 17 it suddenly gets darker and thus I get a PEAK reading on the monitor.

I like to look at This picture in comparison. You see that when ovulation is near, estrogen rises first (right CBFM line get's lighter) and then the LH surges (left CBFM line gets darker).

Hope that explains something ;)

Hi

I've got PCOS as well as hypothryroidism and have very irregular circles which makes it really difficult for me to find my ovulation date.

I bought the Clearblue fertility monitor last year, and after using it for 2 months I got pregnant but unfortunatelly suffered a miscarriage. I had a break from TTC for 3 months and then started using the fertility monitor and got pregnant the first month I used it.

So, from personal experience I would highly recommend it, it alwasy detected my ovulation very accurately. We only baby danced on some of the high fertility dates, and on both peak fertility days.

You can pick a brand new one from EBAY from 60 pounds - well worth the money

:hugs:
