I've had 2 rounds of clomid (3 cycles each). Fisrt cycle was unmonitored 50mg. Second I was on 100mg with a scan and injection on day 11. I was getting 1 good size follicle each cycle but my lining has been thin each time. At my last scan i was told that they would try something else next because the clomid wasn't working. I am now waiting to see the consultant to find out what the next step is.

Does anyone know what the nhs offer after clomid?

I didnt have any success on clomid and the next thing they offered me was tamoxifen.. i have also since been given ovarian drilling as well as a lap and dye..

hope this helps

xx

What is tamoxifen is it similar to clomid?
Have you been diagnosed with anything? They have just told me that i am not ovulating properly.

Hi Sapphia,

Sorry to hear that Clomid didn't work for you. I think NHS provide few different methods for patients if clomid doesnt work. For me, the Dcotors said I cant even have clomid because there will not be much effect and I have to go straight to IVF.

It all depends on each individuals. I hope you recieve the best of treatment and be blessed with good news asap. x

Hi, whereabouts in lancashire are you ? The consultant I see works in chorley and preston.

After I failed to get pregnant on clomid (few unmonitored cycles then some monitored ones, also quite thin lining), they did a lap and dye which got extended to laparotomy due to a large endometrioma and fairly widespread endometriosis. After that they immediately referred me for IVF but also gave me femara/letrozole to try in the meantime (it is taken in the same way as clomid) and I got pregnant on the first cycle with my daughter.

I'm taking the letrozole again (unmonitored) as I've been ttc for two years again now and I got pregnant after a few cycles which I unfortunately lost. I'm seeing my consultant again next week to see what he suggests

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I am in chorley but they asked me to go to preston at my first appointment. Where abouts are you?

I keep wondering how long until they refer me for ivf. Do you know how long the waiting list is?

I'm in chorley too ! We're probably seeing the same person ! I've no idea on the waiting list I'm afraid, I was originally referred for ivf towards the end of February 2009 and there was pretty much no wait at all at Liverpool at that time which was amazing - I was waiting for my period to start before treatment at the beginning of may that year but I was 4 weeks pregnant by mid may.

I'll update you with any information tomorrow after my appointment as to how quick they're going to do anything for me this time (not IVF though as we're not entitled to that now) x

I can't believe you are in chorley as well!

How long were you ttc first time?

I will be interested to find out what they say.

I wish they gave you an action plan so you have an idea what is next! I think i might ask for one!!!

After I finished Clomid I was put on Gonal-F with Ovitrell injections.

I also have problems with ovulating, as in, it never happens nor do I have periods.

The next course of action will depend on what your RE feels is right for you (depending on the problem and length of time TTC), two patients with identical problems seeing different doctors will often have different paths.

Good luck, do you know when your review appointment is?

I understand this but it is nice to get an idea of the possibilities rather being totally clueless lol!

My appointment is on 28th feb.

It's a small world ! Is it mr abdo that you're seeing (or other random member of his team, pot luck !) ?

It took me two years to conceive first time, I saw my GP after 12 months, fertility clinic at 15 months, hycosy at 16 months followed by few cycles of clomid and then surgery at 21ish months. It all seems so quick how things progressed last time on looking back, seems much slower this time

Even though I know my consultant pretty well as I've seen him on and off for a numb of years now (he delivered my baby too !) he never seems to give much away and I'm really rubbish at remembering what I want to ask until I get home, frustrating !

I wasn't trying to imply that you didn't know that, really wasn't my intention and I'm sorry it came across that way. I just meant what you said, all we can give is possibilities.

Good luck at the appointment, hopefully you will come away feeling positive.

It was a good appointment today, I didn't have to have a physical examination for once so that was a bonus ! The current plan of action for me now is to finish this femara cycle (I'm on cd13 today), one more unmonitored cycle of femara next month and then if I'm not pregnant I'll be having a laparoscopy/laparotomy in April, eek

If I wasn't wanting to go ahead with surgery yet, he also gave me the option of seeing him again in the fertility clinic in three months and doing a few monitored femara cycles before surgery - but because I'm having pain issues I wanted to move on to surgery sooner

x

Sugarpuff,

Glad your appointment went well today. Is the op to help with your endometriosis? Did you only find out you had that after the lap and dye the first time round?

It is Mr Abdo I am seeing. I meant to ask you, but I couldn't remember his name!

Princess Lou,

No worries. I wasn't sure how you meant it, so thought I would clarify what I understood and what I was hoping to gain from this.

Thank you. I do normally feel better when I know what the next step is.

During my first surgery they were primarily doing a lap and dye and also investigating a solid mass on one of my ovaries that had been found during my hycosy (they had been checking it during follicle tracking to make sure it wasn't changing. It was only during the surgery that they realised it was an endometrioma and that it had shot up in size suddenly so they had to open me up to remove it whole and they found a lot of other endo too.

This time they're checking to see if it has reoccurred and removing it as necessary

Mr abdo is lovely (even though I cried on him within roughly 15 seconds of him saying hello today, oops !)

we too dint have success with clomid.. we did 4 unmonitored rounds.. each round i ovulated and we BD at the right time but never got :bfp: :nope:

i wonder what might be the reason ?? my cervix had some adhesions that can be reason as well.. also clomid thins out lining .. that can be the most probable reason in your case..

the next approach would be moving on to femara.. trust me, femara had NO side effects on me, my lining was pretty good.. also i ovulated a lot earlier on femara.. so do talk your RE about femara... GL :flower:

Clomid never worked for me either :-( I hated the side effects.

I understand where you are coming from with what happens next....NHS are totally shite at keeping us informed of what is happening. I was on the IUI list which I would have been doing May this year but after pestering the hospital at christmas I was told IUI was now cancelled & I was being put straight for IVF which would be in April this year....I hadnt received any letter so today I phoned the hospital to be told I'm due IVF June/July this year!! We are defo a number to the NHS not a patient, I have hated every step of the Fertility Clinic but I so much want a wee bundle of joy

Just thought I would update following my appointment in case anyone is interested.

The consultant has prescribed 3 monitored cycles of Letrozole 2 x 2.5mg tablets per day, which will be increased to 3 tablets if necessary. If that doesn't work we will be referred to the IVF centre at our next appointment in August. There is no waiting list, but the referral time is 4 to 6 months.
