My DH and I are going to see my OB/GYN in a little over a week because my primary care physician doesn't think I am ovulating. She said my OB would do some tests to confirm this and usually goes with low dose Clomid after that. I am not familiar with this drug, how/when to take it, what to expect, how I it will make me feel, etc. I am sure the Dr will answer all of these, but hoping someone here could give me a heads-up before my appt, just in case I end up needing Clomid. Thanks.

Hi there

Clomid will be given if your 21day bloods show low progesterone etc (so no O)
You take it CD2-6 (so 5 tablets all together) its best taken in the evening (so you can sleep through the side effects)
It *should* induce O 5-10 days after the last pill .... although in my case it took a little longer (I then O'd on CD21)

The 1st month I had no real side effects (a very slight headache over the 1st 2 days) but this month I had a headache, was grouchy, tearful and generally a cow! But now I'm back to normal (still a cow but not so tearful  )
Some people get hot flushes, cramps and hormones.

You'll prob get 50mg to start with.

 hope it goes well

Thanks, Farie. I have read things on the internet, but I'd rather hear it from someone who is actually taking the med and knows the real side effects, etc. I hope this is your month for a BFP!!

I agree with Farie. I am going on my 3rd month and I take them at night too. Some doctors prescribe it CD 2-5, 5-9 it depends on what your doctor prefers I think. My doctor told me 5 thru 9. It is best to just do what you doctor suggests. But as far as side effects, I really haven't had any (knock on wood!) as I have been taking it at night and I sleep off whatever side effects I may get. Good luck and I hope Clomid helps.

I ended up Ovulating 14 days after my last pill of clomid! I was taking it from Days 5-9 and then having to go for a blood test on cd21 to see if i ovulated, but i ended up just ovulating on CD23. This is my third cycle on clomid and this month i was taking a higher dosage and i never really experienced any side effects..I guess everyone is different

can i jump in on this thread a bit and ask what method you ladies are using to confirm ovulation? do you get a scan with the dr's or are you temping/OPKing to confirm?

Thanks
:)

you get a bloodtest drawn on CD21 for hormones to confirm you have O'd :)

The last 3 cycles i've always had a blood test done on CD21 and the last 2 months they have been telling me that i haven't ovulated..So this cycle i actually started using the OPK and i took one on CD23 and it came up positive..So i called my gyno and i asked her the last 2 months was it possible for me to be ovulating after CD21 and she said yes and i can either do CD21 or CD23..So this whole time i thought that i haven't been ovulating and i probably have been, but just later!

I guess it all depends on what your cycle is like, mine have been all over the place so ill have to keep an eye out to see if i indeed O a little later then the 5 to 9 days after Clomid.

I took clomid on days 3-7 and used inexpensive ovulating strips (bought them from this website: https://www.accuratepregnancytests.com/ovulation_kit.html#details). I also had IUI done the next day after my ovulation strip had both lines the same intensity.

I was ovulating regularly, my hormone levels were fine, it was my husband that was the problem but our doctor put me on clomid adn I'm happy to say, I'm pregnant. :o)

If you were ovulating already, did the Dr. give you Clomid so you'd release more eggs for a better chance of conceiving....and how long had you been TTC, if you don't mind me asking....?

I took 5 pills days 5-9 at 50mg. Now it is switched to 6 pills days 3-8 at 50mg. I had no real side effects of the drug. I had some mild hot flashes, that was it. GL
