I've heard you can get colief on prescription, anyone know if this is true???

It depends on your doctor, some will give you it and others won't.

I got it on prescription. My GP offered!! I mentioned at his 6 week check that we were using it and how expensive it is and she offered to give me a repeat prescription, which I can order on-line!

If it's making a difference I'd insist on it or see a different doctor.

I got one on prescription but she said if we needed more she would have to show that she was doing tests etc to see if LO was intolerant to anything so we bought it on ebay 4 bottles for £20 x

Aslong as it's possible to get it on prescription then i shouldnt have a problem, i used to work for my doctor so i'm sure i can persuade him! :-P

Thanks Girls x

Yeah you can get it on prescription.I cant believe to buy it it costs like £12 thats shocking x

Prescriptions for more unusual medicines depend on your local primary care trust. We recently tried to get some probiotic drops on prescription but the GP couldn't do so as it's not on the approved list.

It works the same way as the infamous "postcode lottery" where in some regions you can get vital cancer drugs etc and in others you can't. Ask your GP to check whether the local PCT will permit prescriptions for Colief, but there's no point asking another GP at the same practice if the first one can't do it as they're simply not allowed to.

Good luck though, I hope you live in an area where you can get it.

Hi it is true you can get it on prescription but because of the cost of it some dr's are reluctant to prescribe it.

Give your Dr a go, if they wont prescribe it have a word with your health visitor, they arent allowed to prescribe it for you but they can write in your child health record book that they think a trial of colief may help the baby.

Hope you manage to get it prescribed as it is so damn expensive for such a tiny bottle :hugs:

We were advised to get some by the health visitor and when we went to the Pharmacy they basically told us we could have got it free by going to the Drs to get it! So the following few times we did! :)
