Ok so SMA staydown has to be made up with cold water and then brought to room temp and colief has to be put in at room temp and left for half an hour, so my question is how can I make night feeds easier? as atm I have to get up an hour b4 LO usually wakes to prepare the feed then hope he wakes no later than the 2 hours b4 the feed goes off luckily he only wakes at 3.30 and 6.30 usually or I would go mental

If I was in your position, I'd seriously consider just pre-making the 2 night feeds. I started to do so when I put her on colief, let alone colief with staydown! We end up premaking 2-4 bottles at a time now because it was just so much easier, plus it halves the amount of colief you need to use as it's only 2 drops, and it's expensive stuff so that's a benefit!

oh my...
we heart the staydown and have the prep perfect but colief as well :dohh:
that must be a real pain, I have often thought about newborns on staydown as you cant really make up according to demand.
try phoning sma - they were very helpful to me :flower:

Do the feeds not go lumpy if you pre make them with staydown tho as staydown has to be added to cold refrigerated water and warmed to room temp and colief in at room temp then once made the bottles of staydown must be used within 2 hours

I don't know for sure but could you not premix the staydown but not warm it, leave it in the fridge then warm it and add the colief, then at least it's only the half hour instead of an hour? x

Taken from the sma website FAQ
Q4: How do I give night time feeds of Staydown?
You can take the bottle of water out of the fridge before you go to bed and then...
You can take the bottle of water out of the fridge before you go to bed and then add the powder to the water when the baby needs a feed. Feed at room temperature.

This is what we did but we didn't use colief so cant help with that but it would be at room temperture..

The way i make my staydown at night is to put one ounce less of water than needed (so if u feed 4 ounces put in 3) of water into however many bottles u will need and put in fridge as normal.. Then when little one wants feeding i Get out of bed and put kettle on While kettle is on i get the 3oz bottle out the fridge and add 4 scoops of formula and roll in hands until kettle is boiled (our kettle only takes 1 min to boil but before i used to change her nappy too in this time) and then use the kettle Water to top upto 4 oz and roll again.. That way the bottle is slightly warmer than room temp but isnt hot!!

Xx

My LO has been on staydown for 4 weeks and most of the time we take the water out the fridge, put in the formula and then feed her to it's chilled. Didn't think it was necessary to leave to room temperature although sometimes we do.
