So, I have been TTC since May/June 2010. One chemical in June 2011.

Official diagnosis - unexplained. Although, not many tests, just the usual bloods and HSg. All normal.

I am 35 and just been referred for IVF next spring and starting Clomid in Jan. Was feeling really excited but saq accupunturist yesterday who looked at all my temping charts and says she thinks I am getting pregnant, but something is stopping it implanting properly. She says this cause I get high peaks in the LP. She said, if she is right IVF won't help. She thinks I might need a course of steroids to stop my body producing antibodies that fight the embryo. She says she wants to tell my Dr this if she cant sort it out just through accupuncture.

Now I am feeling down as had high hopes for IVF. But what if she is right? Do I speak to the consultant about it at my next appointment or not? Soooo confused.

That is tricky. Does she want to call the doctor or does she want you to bring it up? I think the answer to that can make a big difference. If one health professional can talk to another I think the message will get translated better. If you have to explain it then something could get lost in the explanation and there's always that saying of "don't shoot the messenger". If anything, ask the acupuncturist to call the doctor personally. Also, how high of a spike are we talking about and how long does it last, and how many of the months are we talking about. If its all of the months then I don't think that could be right because no one can get pregnant every month. If its some months then I could understand. Also, how much do you trust what the acupuncturist is telling you? If it was my acupuncturist then I would believe him. But I have had health care professionals that I don't trust their medical opinion and I have left them for that reason. Sorry to give you more questions then answers, but sometimes that's how you get to the real answer.

Hi there
My experience is that everyone I see has a different opinion. If you have more than one doctor or advisor you will end up confused.
I would advise you to look at NaProTEchnology. That is a treatment with higher succes rates than IVF and which looks for underlying causes. here is a little film if you are interested: www.fertilitycare.eu
All the best wishes

Thanks ladies. Amber you are so right - best to stick with one practioner! The more I think about it the more I think acupuncturist wrong as I test early and apart from chemical have never got even a faint BFP.

Pheonix - I know, it leads to so many questions. Acupuncturist suggested if she cant solve it, she writes to my GP with her opinion.

I think what I will do is continue to see acupuncturist so she can do her stuff, but carry on with doctors and IVF. If IVF fails then I will talk to them about this stuff. IT is just we struggled to get IVF covered on insurance, I dont now want to delay it!!

Thanks. If anyone has and experience with antibodies or been subscribed steroid, can they let me know their experience. Thanks

I have no idea how she could tell that from a chart - if only it were that easy!

Sorry but she's an acupuncturist and should stick to what she knows, which isn't years of medical training and a specialism in fertility - or is she a Dr practicing acu?

I love charting, but a luteal phase peak is at best linked to good/high progesterone and can a drop can indicate a progesterone problem......no idea how it would show antinuclear antibodies, which i think is what she's referring to. You can however have blood tests to confirm this.

If you need steroids they can be prescribed alongside your IVF cycle, though really it's only common to prescribe/test for this after repeat IVF fails.

Good luck, I think one of the hardest parts of infertility is that everyone you see that's a 'specialist' has a view, often differing ones and often giving us new things to worry about. The real hard part is sifting out which bits you want to use and follow through on and which parts you want to shelf for now.

Nell - thank you. That makes me feel so much better. She thinks I have quite a few peaks in the LP and this means I am getting pregnant but not implanting, but as you say that seems a bit nuts. Also, I am a POAS addict and never get early lines on the tests.

You have made me realise I need to take a breath, let the accupunturist relax me (which is what I went for) and look forward to IVF or a natural BFP.

MOre than one peak in the luteral phase is according to what I have learnded through NaProTechnology rather a sign of delayed ovulation and usually is a sign of stress.
Your ovulation is around the last peak day. ( I find naProTechnology credible because they have spent the last 40 years studying fertility charts as well as underlying causes of infertility)

Thanks Amber - I am going to check that out

Just in case anyone reads this. I went on to get bfp with first ivf and had my DD. No steroids or further mention of antibodies.

It is awesome to see this thread bumped up with lovely news - congratulations on your daughter and your new BFP :)

Thanks Nell. I remember you from threads n 2012/2013. Congrats on your two xx
