Hi girls, I am new to this part of the forum - I have been ttc for about 12 months with no luck, I went to see a gyne and he did a blood test back in Oct which I was told was fine, but as I still had no luck I chased him for another appointment and now I have received a second letter saying the levels were slightly lower than normal and so I should try Clomid.
What I am confused about is that I have been using an ovulation detector which has been positive when I am ovulating, and I feel ov pain - so am I not ovulating?? can those predictor kits be misleading?
I guess I am just wondering if what I am going to take is just a waste of time.

To complicate matters further, I have had a few scans recently and was told I probably had endometriosis - but I thought not ovulating was due to PCOS? so confused!
Any comments or suggestions welcome

There are lots of reasons why you could have anovulatory cycles.

And clomid is prescribed to lots of women who already ovulate, to give them a stronger more mature ovulation. I did not like clomid however. I don't ovulate naturally though, either, so I had to try it. I like taking soy much better but the docs don't like that!

You might as well give it a shot. If it doesn't work the first month, don't use it any more if you're already ovulating. Has your husband's sperm been checked?
Good luck friend and feel free to message me if you have questions. :dust:

I would give the comid a bash. I do ovulate and fell pregnant 2nd cycle of taking it. X

Hi everyone :)

Twinklewoo, I was just prescribed Clomid as well. I've been ttc 19 mos, had a missed m/c at 10 wks in Dec 2008 and a chemical pregnancy in Aug 2009. Started charting and temping back in Nov and have confirmed ovulation, but I seem to spot continuously throughout my cycle (both pre and post ov) which means my uterine lining isn't thickening the way it should and I also don't think my eggs are maturing how they should be either.

I've been seeing an acupuncturist for about a month in hopes of stopping the spotting naturally but so far I haven't seen any change (realize it's still early).

I also had surgery last month to remove a uterine septum that could have played a role in at least the first miscarriage.

So I've got the 50 mg for 5 days script sitting here and I figured I better do lots of research. I'm on cd 10 so need to wait for my next cycle to give it a go.

19 mos ago I swore I'd never take fertility drugs and was even ignorant enough to say that if it doesn't work naturally then it's just not meant to be (oh to have that naive innocence back).

Martine, congratulations on your pregnancy and continued health and happiness! Can you recommend any threads where I could learn more about Clomid and how to minimize side effects or if there is anything else I should be taking with it (expectorant, using special lubes, etc)?

Twinklewoo, maybe we can go through this journey together, when will you be starting your Clomid?

PrayerfulHope, I wish you all the best and hope the soy is the charm for you! I have heard it described as natural clomid. I was at least impressed that my DR said that if 1 month of Clomid does not give a mature egg and good lining, then we will stop it right away because no further doses will make it work better. I've been ttc 19 mos also and the pic of you and your handsome husband reminds me so much of me and my DH. This may sound silly but I'm as pale as can be and he's middle eastern so pics of the two of us look just like you guys, but you know what they say about those opposites :)

Best of luck to everyone!!

You can't rely on those ovulation tests to tell you if you are ovulating or not. Apparently some women ovulate but never see a positive OPK and others will have positive OPKs but not ovulate. The only way to know for yourself if you ovulate I think is to chart your temperatures. If you get the temperature rise then you will know if you ovulate.

As for the clomid, I'd go for it. And you can release more than one egg each cycle so more chance of conceiving.

Good luck x

Hi
I got most of my clomid info on here. I read the clomid club thread from beginning to end which took hours!

I also googled stuff.

In relation to dryness I took robitussin, the cough med to thin up my cm, on the cycle I got pregnant. By the end even the smell made me gag, however it does do the job.

I was very lucky side effect wise, as the first cycle it made me euphorically happy and full of energy. The second cycle I had a slight elevated mood, but apart from that it was great.

On the issue of opks I would use them, just make sure that they are a good brand and not ic, and I think you will be fine. I temped as well.

I would also say really get as much bd in as possible, sound obvious however we really up the ante in the second cycle (and were ready to drop) but we never let an 18hr period go without bd from cd 14-21.

Very best of luck. XXXX
