Confussed! had mc but hcg levels have doubled!

Help I am very confussed. I had a mc last week i had bloods done but they still had a high level of hormones, they were 500 last week. nothing strange there as the nurse told me they can hang around for a week or 2 so I have just been back to the hosp today for repeat blood samples so that they can confirm that levels are back to normal and they can discharge me. I was told can only be discharged when levels are below 50

The confussing bit is that my pg hormone levels have actually increased! infact they are now over 1000
I had an internal and extrenal scan last week and they def said no baby.
i have been bleeding for 12 days and have now stopped. I passed quite a few clots and tissue. The docs were at the time happy that my mc was complete but now i am booked in for another internal on thurs as my levels have increased.

I just don't know what to think. Anyone else had this and it turned out to be an ectopic pg? this is all i can think off. I can't let myself believe that i am still pg as when i have my scan it will be like going through the mc all again. nightmare.

How strange - could it be possible that you were carrying twins and lost one and perhaps they missed it off the original scan??? praying for a miricle for you hun xx

I had this happen with both of my m/c's. I was getting faint lines when I started bleeding and then a week later I tested and I had a strong line. I spoke to my midwife and she said that sometimes it takes the body a few days to realise that the baby has gone so your hormones can carry on getting higher for a while.

Sorry hun but an honest answer is yes I have been in this situation and it started off being told I was MC'ing.

However my count rised slowly and stayed static I don't think I got past a level of 500.

How many days previous to that count was your last and do you know the result?

Yes, this happened to my sister, and it was ectopic. If they can't see a pregnancy in your uterus, and you have Hcg rising - then there is a pregnancy - somewhere. They need to find it. Are you having any kind of pain??? If not, then perhaps when you had your first scan, you might have been too soon to see anything yet. But, if there is no pregnancy, then your Hcg should not be rising. So, I would say that it is a possibility that you may have an ectopic. If you are pain - I would go straight to the hospital as my sister was misdiagnosed several times and nearly died (she was also told she had a m/c originally).

Something similar happened to my sister-in-law and they found that she had miscarried her daughter's twin. But since you said that you have had a scan confirming nothing in your uterus, I would get another scan to double check, and then highly consider ectopic. As was previously said, it is obvious you have a pregnancy somewhere, please be careful. If you have any pain or shoulder pain, go to the ER immediately. Best of luck to you.

If your levels are increasing they will monitor you closely due to eptopic.

Thanks i thought ectopic would be the case. I am not in any pain and was advised by the sister to go to A&E if i do.

They did have trouble seeing much on the internal as she said that my bowels had lots of gas in and it was pushing everything up. Put she really took her time and had a good look and like i said she saw nothing oh but a small cyst on one of my ovaries which she said was due to the pregnancy and will go on it's own.

When i had my first bloods done the day of the scan and mc my hcg levels were 500 4 days later and they are now 1034

Could some tissue remain and this is what is making the levels rise. I'm praying it's just one of those things that our silly bodies do i really don't want a d&c or keyhole.

that is a pretty significant rise. I think you need another ultrasound. Ultrasound is not an exact science. Plus if you were actively miscarrying and gas and other stuff, all of that can obscure a clear view. I don't think retained tissue can cause your numbers to go up, only an active growing fetus. I could be wrong. It also may be a delayed reaction that your body is having. Did they take more blood recently to make sure it is going down? Keep us posted....

Are they still monitoring your bloods???? Do you go tomorrow for another scan?

Tissue shouldn't cause a rise, it delays the HGC levels reducing. I've just recently misscarried and my levels where creeping up but not enough but after my Natural MC they dropped dramatically. However, due to the pain I was in (left hand side) they admitted me from the fri till the sunday. On the sunday morning I passed my wee bean and they scanned me a couple of hours later to check the left tube, which thankfully was clear.

Normally when the levels double slowly and not in 48 hours it can be the sign of Ectopic. But who knows what's going on! Atleast you know by tomorrow hun.

But she has confussed me even more if possiable she said that as i was only just 6 weeks when i mc may be it was too early and they couldn't see bean yet and that in fact i was prob having twins and mc one of them. I really wish she hadn't said that i can't go thinking i am still pg as i will be devestated all over again tomorrow when they say im not.

Oh hun, she should have kept her mouth shut. Don't get your hopes built up just yet, wait and see what tomorrow brings

I think sometimes people think they're being helpful when they say positive things to you. They couldn't find my baby's heartbeat at over 8 weeks. I got no end of people saying that it could be a mistake. It doesn't help you.
I now it's easy for me to say, but try and relax until tomorrow, and try not to get your hopes up.

YOur Hcg should not rise from tissue. Bleeding yes, Hcg - no. My sister is an ER nurse and says that if you are in ANY kind of pain in your lower tummy, back or shoulder, or if you have no pain but start bleeding again, then go to the hospital. Hopefully you just had a polyp or something and the pregnancy is actually in your uterus, but, if you had a scan and they saw "swelling" in your ovary...that kind of worries me.
