Constipated?

My son is jus about a week old I exclusively breastfed for the first 5 days and had a hard time with it. Yesterday I switched to formula.. Which is going much better for both of us. Only thing is my baby hasnt pooped since the switch, im guessing he is constipated.. He burps and farts.. But I am starting to worry why hasnt he gone poo in about 24 hours. Is he ok? Is there anything I can do?

breast milk is a lot easier to digest then f-milk, so they will poop lest often. he is most likely ok and just getting use to the new milk. baby are not classed as being constipated until they have not gone for 3 or more days. if the poop is thicker then peanut butter or are coming out as round pellets then these are sign that your lo maybe constipated.

Hmm I've never heard the three day rule before. As far as I've always read, it's not constipation unless their poo is hard. Babies do often make a song and dance over pooing and farting - it's all new and weird and their bodies are getting used to doing new things. If he hasn't pooed for a few days I wouldn't be concerned unless when he does go, it's hard. I wouldn't worry for now but be prepared for a big poo when he does go. You could try warm baths, tummy massage, leg cycling etc if he seems in discomfort, but again that is is pretty normal for a baby.

My hv told me about the 3 day rule for ff babies. while Bf babies are ok for 7 days.

I breast feed my son for the first 5 weeks until my supply ran out, so had to use f-milk. while i bf, my bubs would only poop once a week. after we put him on to f-milk he stop pooping. a week past then 2 and still no poop. I could see my little man was in pain and he started to bring up most of his bottles. this is when I talked to my hv and she told me that if he has not pooped at least every 3 days he need to be seen by the dr. in the we found out that it was the f-milk that was bunging him up. we tried all brands of first milk and found the same thing. he is now on cow and gate comfort and poops up to 3 times a day

Glad I found this thread, my 1 week old hasn't pooped for over a day now and I was starting to worry (FTM so everything makes me worry lol!!). But this has made me feel better. My LG doesn't seem in any discomfort so all I can do is wait for that big poop to come
Think it's just worrying because when the midwife visits she always asks about her pooping 3 times a day!
