My LO seems constipated. he pooped yesterday morning.
is there anything I can do to help him?

Evie has only ever pooped every day when she was BF but since switching to formula when she was 2 weeks old, she goes every other day. Occasionally she'll poo on the third day but it's usually every other day. She's not constipated as her poos are the normal consistancy, just huge cos there's 2 days worth!!

Does your LO seem in pain with it, or straining with nothing happening? He may poo later or tomorrow morning? What formula are you using? x

he is staining, he looks like he trying to go but nothing is happening.
I'm using enfamil. (not sure if you have that in the UK)

I think our Health Visitors/Doctors over here just recommend you try feeding LO cool boiled water between feeds ( even if it is just an ounce or so )

I dont think there really is anything else you can do to help

My midwife said when your LO is constipated instead of making up for example a 5oz bottle with 5 scoops of powder, just put in an extra 1oz of water so 6oz and 5 scoops. then that way they are getting a bit of water thrown in to soften things up a bit.

Works for my little one:flower:

My lo was constipated when she was young (still is sometimes) but the only thing the doctor said was that I could give her cooled boiled water between milk feeds. I would consult a doctor before putting more water than is recommended in formula as I've read that it can be dangerous...

kk , he pooped! and it was a huge one. lol but I feel much better now. lol ( and I bet he does too )

Hehe glad all is well again :)

Hi, i used a teaspoon of freshly sqeezed orange juice in boiled cooled water!

If that fails then try prune juice - that works!!!!!!!!!

FF babies can go up to 4 days without a bowel movement (well I think it's four, might be three) and have it be normal. Hannah was an every day and a half girl for a while and than she went to one day and than three days and than back to one :dohh: If I felt she was straining though or having problems going I would do the bicycle movements with her age or lay her on my tummy (she on her side, stomach facing me) and gently rub, sometimes a warm bath helped as well.

I personally wouldnt use orange juice or prune juice on a baby just over a week old tbh, but belly massage and cycling their legs can often help

Babies don't have to go everyday, but if you notice he is straining like you mentioned, I found that the bicycle movements Vickie is talking about helped a lot! So does infant massage.

I also did something that I guess isn't recommended and I used iron fortified and regular formula, the iron can bung them up sometimes. I have read that they have enough iron stored up for the first 6 months so I wasn't overly concerned about that.. more worried about the hard poos she was having!

I wouldn't add anything to his bottle at his age personally in the juice dept..

ya, I'm not going to give him juice yet. All is good, hes been pooping lots.lol
just that one time he was having a hard time.
