Hi, I had a early MC/CP in feb..bleeding started on Feb 20th and all bleeding/spotting had stopped by 25th...I dont temp or track ov (due to pcos) but going by ov pains I think I may have o'd early between the 27th feb and 1st march. A few days after and since I have had breast tenderness and on doing some research just now it is suggested that progesterone is the hormone responsible for this...sooo does this mean it is more likely AF is on her way rather than a BFP? I have had breast tenderness before AF with some cycles before so I reckon it isnt likely I am preg...but regardless I want to try and understand what is going on and also which hormone progesterone/estrogen is responsible for what Lol maybe I need to go back to sex education class  but thought I'd ask the knowledgeable ladies here first...Thanx for reading x

I'm so sorry about you recent loss, hun. I had a loss in February as well. Sucks big time. :hugs:

I know this is an older post, but figured I'd respond.

Doctors believe that progesterone is to blame for breast tenderness. Progesterone comes from the follicle the egg was released from. After ovulation, the follicle turns into what's known as the corpus luteum. The corpus luteum makes progesterone.

The progesterone that the CL makes helps to finish the development of the uterine lining and it keeps AF away. If you don't get pregnant, the CL stops producing progesterone and that starts your period. If you do get pregnant, it keeps producing progesterone so AF won't start.

Whether you're pregnant or not, the breast tenderness is caused by the exact same thing: the CL releasing progesterone, and the fluctuations in hormone levels. Because of this, tender breasts cannot be counted as a sign of being pregnant, but also can't be counted as a sign of not being pregnant. They just hurt, and it sucks. (I say as I sit in my bed yelling at my TWW achey bb's.)

Note: Some women will notice changes in their breast tenderness when they are pregnant, like a different part of the bb's hurt, or it's more/less intense than normal. It could be due to how hCG interacts with progesterone. Doctors don't know. Of course, some cycles are just odd and even if you're not pregnant, you still might notice varying tenderness cycle to cycle.
