contraception after pregnancy/birth?

If I do anything other then condoms it will be the pill. But honestly if I get pregnant again I am going to be happy and I know OH will be too. We both want a BIG family lol. I think I want another kid in 2 years. Keep the ages between all my kids around 2 years, but that is just me. I am not normal haha. But I know it will be awhile until I even want to have sex, but every single time we do, we will use a condom unlike last time lol.

I personally don't want to go on anything, mainly because I cherish my fertility and don't want to risk anything messing it up, nor do I fancy the ones such as the pill, implant etc. because studies have shown that women who use hormonal contraceptions are more likely to get breast cancer than those who do not.

Me and OH are just using condoms and if we don't have them, we don't do it - simple. Although I had to take the morning after pill twice, because both times we had sex we weren't in a good state of mind for making practical decisions. I feel utter shite over taking that. Proper disgusting. (not having a go at anyone who has, just my own feelings on it).

So it's either condoms or nowt. However, OH has told me about something called natural family planning. As a Catholic he knows about it because it is a contraception method approved by his religion. It does not abort babies, nor does it used things like condoms etc. Basically it calculates your most fertile times of the month and makes you aware of the symptoms your body tells you, letting you know you are fertile. You avoid sex around this time, and since you can tell when you are fertile, you can avoid sex when you feel that way. Any other time you can have sex without using anything and be 97% protected - the same as condoms!

i respect your OH's religion, although the 'natural family planning' thing is sort of similar to how me an OH conceived. we knew my fertile times and made sure we used protection then, and when i wasn't fertile we were more relaxed about it. we did not take in to account however, sperm stays in the woman for up to 7 days, so i ended up pregnant.
i understand this method for older women, but as this is a teen forum, there are young girls here who should not read about this method as they can be naive and trust it, and become pregnant again when they're not in a family or ready for another child.

Levin is 2 month old now.
And I'm going to take the pill when my next periode will come.

And never without condom ^^

Yeah, I agree...
I'm not bashing anyones religion but shortly after my husband and I got married we used this "method" it's also known as the rhythm method.
It worked for me for about 5 or 6 months. Then I got pregnant.
Luckily I am 22 and financially ok so I wasn't too upset.

I just found it was too complicated and hard. It takes a lot to know your cycle. Most women that just go off of natural signs get it wrong (like I did). Using OPKs and BBT will help tremendously but thats alot of money spent.
Also, I didn't take into account that your ovulation day changes each month.

I had a biology teacher in college that once said... "people who rely on the rhythm method are called parents"

He was right!

I have to go to the OB/GYN 6 weeks after I give birth and I will ask her to prescribe birth control pills for me then. I will also be using condoms. I am definitely not ready for another baby! No glove, no love! :haha:

All of you should do loads of research before making a decision, because like some people already said certain birth controls can give you breast cancer or harm your fertility in the long run.

Obviously its important though. Have any of you heard of VCF? (Vaginal contraceptive film), it works better then birth control and you just put it in 20 minutes before sex and it lasts 4 hours. I used it for a while and had no problem, then you don't have to deal with remembering to take your pills every day. It'd be important to use condoms too though for extra protection if your scared. :flower:

nuva ring for me, if i can even use it, I cannot take BC this is the only form i haven't tried if I cant use this then just condoms since there isnt anything i can do.

Just so you guys know , my mum fell pregnant with both me and my sister whilst on the coil.
Im not using anything , me and my partner are happy to have another if it happens <3

sorry...... but i have never heard something quite so BULLSHIT as that.
the pill gives you breast cancer. oh my daaaayss. please, don't go around saying that especially in a teen forum.
and maybe stop reading the daily mail too, i heard that seeing a willy can make you blind, too.

i dont understand why some people are so desperate to jump back in the sack again? I know there's a lot more to my relationship than sex and i'm more looking forward to the days we'll have out alone without LO...just my opinion but sex really isn't important...

sex may not be important, but making sure you're using the right contraception for you and your partner to feel comfortable ... IS important.
which is what this thread is about. not 'how many hours after labour are you going to wait until you have sex again'.

I really hope that works for you! I had a friend whose sister conceived twice using nuva ring! She probably wasn't using it right or consistently or something, though.

Yeah I've heard nuva ring is unreliable too because it can come out easily.

I'm never having sex again! Haha just kidding :D I haven't decided yet but I want something that really really works I don't want to have another baby for at least 5 years!

I'm not to concerned since I didnt have any birth control after my son and just used condoms, i didnt conceive until we NTNP. And If we do end up getting conceiving again thats fine, we do plan on one more then i will be getting my tubes tied.

And as far as a previous comment about being desperate to get in the sack, for me sex isnt just sex, its a simultaneous moment that myself and my OH are never closer. I personally enjoy intercourse. and at some point you did to or you wouldn't be in this situation.

I got the depo provera shot. It sucks! I am so disinterested in sex, which is a side effect - no fun. I wish I had gone down a different route, I will probably ask my ob/gyn about an IUD :flower:

Sorry, but I'd have to disagree! I hate to start an disagreement or anything, but I've asked plenty of doctors out there if birth controls can cause breast cancer or harm your future fertility and they all say this is false. I went to a catholic doctor (she was a nun) and she had signs all around her office that said "birth control causes breast cancer" and I was quick to never go to her again! :flower:

Its not very likely, but a lot of women have hormone imbalances and birth control can add to that which may or may not lead to breast cancer. I'm kinda biased as when I was on BC I was always sick, nauseous, and had headaches no matter what the dosage was. Same with some of my family members who noticed major body differences in one way or another once they did start taking birth control.

I guess everything has a side affect, and in the long run sometimes birth control DOES help your fertility. I know doctors tell women who can't get pregnant to go on birth control for a while, but I really do think it just depends on your body. My friends sister had an implant and it took her almost 2 years to get pregnant once she had it taken out, which can be a side affect as well.

Just what I've noticed, may not apply to everyone.

btw. im not arguing or anything, just answering your reply. :flower:

I'm in NO way saying that you shouldn't go on birth control. Other wise this world would be so over populated and we'd be popping out babies left and right. I just highly reccomend talking to your doctor, family members, and doing tons of research before doing something more permanent like the implant. Or even with the shot, my friend stopped using it and had a period for 6 months straight and the doctors said it was normal. So despite what may or may not happen, you'll never now until you ask/try and if it doesn't work you can always switch to something else.
