I am going to be seeing a FS on March 18. I know he will be running a milliion tests and Im not too worried about that. My question is how much has IUI, IVF, trigger shots, etc cost you? My insurance has a $24,000 lifetime max on infertility treatments. Does that only give me 1 shot? I have 1 daughter that is 21 months and we have been ttc #2 for 20 months. It is so frustrating to get BFN month after month. We wanted 4-5 children and feel we may only get 1. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Did you use IVF for you first daughter? But I assume your in the US, IVF is usually 10k a try.

I got pregnant naturally with her after 4 months of NTNP. I hate women who get pregnant like that now :) its so annoying! I am in the US and just nervous of the cost. I want to have more than 1 or 2 chances.

The cost will vary significantly depending on the clinic and what your insurance covers. Many cover nothing. Some plans will cover testing and treatment for you if there are infertility issues but not anything for the procedures like IUI/IVF. Others will cover everything once you meet your deductible. Prescription coverage will also vary widely and can add significantly to the expense if not covered. With that limit you can probably get 1 or 2 IVF under the cap, but it may be worthwhile to ask for more specific cost estimates from your FS. Their billing department should be able to help.

I haven't gotten to IVF yet (and hopefully won't need to) but I know that there are some supplemental plans you can purchase for IVF to help make the expense more manageable. The one my clinic is partnered with includes 3 IVF and 3 FET for I think 28K and there is a partial refund if you don't take a child home. Worth looking into.

And don't give up on your 4-5 kids just yet, IVF success rates are pretty good and you could always have more than one from a single IVF.

I can only tell you what the costs are the the IUI process I've used (with my Fertlity Clinic)- but I'm sure it will vary from clinic to clinic...

IUI= $190
Sperm Wash= $130
Intravaginal Ultrasound= $220
Blood draw= $100
Seman Analysis= $200

Overall, we spent the most the first month. As I had blood work done twice, a u/s, IUI, and dye test (not sure what that costs as it was a different clinic and I haven't been billed yet).

Once the major tests are run- it can average about $700 per month (no insurance). We are lucky our insurance covers 50%.

For IUI with Injectables it would range $1,500-$2,000 per cycle and for IVF- it would cost between 10k-15k per cycle.

Best of luck to you hun! Great you have some coverage for this :) Fingers crossed you get that BFP soon!

I live in the U.S. my clinic charges:

Ultrasound: $275 per US (normally have 3-4 a month)
Femara (pill): $60 (per month)
Follistim: $280 (per month)
Ovidrel: $70 (per month)
Progesterone: $100 (per month)
IUI: $400 (per month)
Sperm washing: $275 (once)

You will probably need an HSG -- That is normally around $500-$800 (this will only be needed once to make sure your tubes are open.

Therefore, IUI is anywhere from $2300-$3000 per month. I would definitely attempt IUI's first for at least 3 times. Then look into IVF, the base price of IVF at my clinic is about $13k.

Hope that helps!
