Cot bumper or not???

Hi ladies, just after everyone elses opinion really on whether or not to have a cot bumper. I didnt with dd as i was worried about the things i had read about it being linked to cot death but would really like one for bubs and not sure what to do. Is anyone else going to have one?

There is no real evidence to suggest they are safe, or not, so I will not be taking the risk.x

Im having cot bumpers only because i would be worried if my baby banged his or her head! ive been reading alot about cot bumpers and them coming off but i think it you tie them on tight thay wont fall off & just check them every so often.x

I'm not. I would like one - I keep thinking that just look softer and protect LO from banging their head. And they brighten up an otherwise very dull cot, which will have little more than a flat sheet in it and a sleeping bag (once LO is old enough). But the research is too conflicting (ie: apparently it can be very hard for LO to regulate their body temperature if their head ends up pressed against a bumper etc) so I'm thinking better to be safe.

I'm paranoid and don't want to take the chance, so I will not be using bumpers.

My friend never used them but her little one started using the bars to turn herself on to her front and then would wimper all night that she couldn't turn herself back on to her back. They had to put cot bumpers all the way round to stop her doing it or they would find her face down in the mattress (only a few months old).....probably not its designed purpose though!!

I had bought one until I read on here a few weeks ago that there was conflicting advice about them so then took it back as don't want to take any risks

Im still sticking to having them! the ones i have have ties all the way round the bottom and the top and there is noway a baby can get underneath them.

I dont mean to be sarcastic but mine had ties as well,
at the bottom and top & yes he still managed to roll it
round himself...just thought i would add that

I'm not having them, Ive read that they prevent air flow through the crib... For now they are just decoration (I had to use them sometime, they are just so cute! But they will be coming off when Ryland arrives)

I had one with my DD and never had any problems! We will most likely get one.

Baby is supposed to sleep with feet at end of the cot so he/she doesnt wriggle down underneath the covers anyway so his/her head will be no where near the top of the cot.

I was undecided about cot(crib) bumpers to and I ended up using them and tie them tight only to have my DH(OH) pull a bit on the bumper and they rip...Then my son decided to learn to roll and back up on his knees and pull the bumper with his feet and the ties ripped again like what happened to DH(OH). I ended up having to sew thicker cross stitching thread on them to hold them together. So I suggest if you tie them tight, make sure not too tight. My son is 8 almost 9 months when that started to happen, its more a decorative peice in his crib than to protect him as he doesnt bang his head often in there.

It's a shame because they look soooo cute but were not having bumpers. When the health visitor comes round to visit they will advise you against them, they don't like them due to suffocation I believe. I don't think it is worth the risk just to make the cot/crib look good.
