Ive had a cold, which my lovely sons gave me when i was around 4 weeks pregnant!!!.. Fortunately for me, that cold has now turned into lots of snots and green phlegm!!!

Im now 9 weeks+ and im still suffering, im finding it harder to breathe and have chesty cough, that everytime is bringing up phlegm, ive been going to the bathroom to spit it out BORK!!.. and tonight i coughed Phlegm came up, i spat it in the toilet and there was bright red blood mixed in with some Phlegm! this is the first ever time this has happened to me.

about 10 mins later i coughed again and more bloodied phlegm.

Im off to the doctors tomorrow, im have enough now, ive been poorly for 5 weeks!!!

Anyone had this before?? what was the outcome??

thanx

I have no idea but didn't want to read and run. Hope tomorrow gets here quickly. Sounds miserable! Good luck, mama!

Sounds like your poor throat has been irritated. I'm sure it's nothing serious. Hopefully they can give you some nice meds to calm down your coughing. Ladies also get this when they have a lot of ms because their esophagus gets so irritated.

About 10 minutes ago I just sneezed and a bunch of bloody snot came out. Gross, scary, and apparently normal to have some nose bleeding during pregnancy. I have had a sore throat off and on and a bit of a stuffy nose for the last 2 days but it doesn't feel like a cold, I'm pretty sure it's just my body reacting to the pregnancy.

Maybe you're having something similar? Since it was mixed in with the phlegm which originated in your nose? Hopefully it's nothing to be concerned about.

That could be it too. Everything is a lot more engorged when you're pregnant and you bleed easier when you're pregnant because of that.

If it was a clot of blood or if it was dark I'd be worried that something is going on in your lungs, but it doesn't sound like anything bad. Just irritation.

thank-you ladies for replying... it deffo came from me coughing, i havent had any morning sickness at all (Very Lucky!!) But i seem to of made up that with this awful cold, that just doesnt want to go away :(

Its probably mostly from irritated and swollen sinuses. Is the phlegm yellow or green at all?

Haemoptysis (coughing up blood) isn't to be taken lightly, especially with green sputum and being pregnant. Glad you're seeing the doc tomorrow but maybe consider the ED tonight. You may have pneumonia so you'll need treatment.

How much did you cough up? Was it mostly blood or mostly sputum?

Please, see somebody ASAP. Best to be safe than sorry.

Hi, saw your post. I had this about two weeks ago, I'm adthmatic and had been coughing a lot and on a few occassions had bright red blood. I saw doctor who listened to my chest / lungs and said all fine. With the prolonged cough I'd probably burst a small membrane or blood vessel. Mine hasn't happend since that day. If the blood isn't bright red or in small clots thats when you need to worry. Good luck with the doctor, definitly see him/her. Hopefully it will all be fine

Brown-red rust colour is also cause for concern. That's associated with a specific type of bacterial pneumonia. There's no quick guide for coughing up blood - it's something that should ALWAYS be investigated.

Well ladies i went to my Doctor, He sounded my chest and my right lung is bunged up... Hes gave me Antibiotics and told me to inhale lots of steam, to release the build up in my lung... If i dont then i will end up with Pneumonia!! :( having had Pneumonia before, i certainly dont want that again

Thanks for the follow-up lovely. Glad you've been well looked after and I wish you an extremely speedy recovery and a healthy and happy subsequent rest of pregnancy :hugs:
