Hi, I had my 18-20 week ultrasound and we wanted to find out the sex of the baby. The lady had trouble trying to finding out what we were having because the cord was between the legs. When she tried to go up between the legs she said it was a boy but what she pointed out as a boy didn't look close enough to the body and didn't look anything like what i had with my other boy. Could she have been wrong? She also refused to take a picture of it to show my husband it was a boy.

I wouldn't trust it. Why did she refuse to give you a pic?

She said it's not a photo that should be taken and the 5 photos she printed out of the baby is enough. So I'm a little confused because i can't look at it to figger out how she got a boy or ask people what they think.

Not a photo that should be taken!? Wow she's taking it to the extreme. I would of asked for someone else to come in and double check x

Have you got any more scans lined up? I had my 28 week scan this week and although we knew the sex, and it was very clear when we found out she still double checked and confirmed.

Wow...sorry the tech wasn't very nice and refused to give you the pic. I would call my OB and try to discuss it her nurse and she if you can reschedule another scan

I personally don't trust techs. The only definite answer I trust is from an OB who conducts ultrasound him or herself.

Thanks everyone for the reply's i don't have a doctor's appointment in till next week so i might ask if i can get another scan done. Hopefully she will but i don't have any more scans coming up :-(

id say yes to a second opinion. Im in the Uk and I had a private scan at 17wks 4d and they said girl (showed the parts clearly) waited to get too excited until my 20wk scan from the NHS (just a quick look at gender but clear it was a girl) I think the cord being between your babies legs would make it harder to see so Im hoping you get a clear view next time xx

To answer your first question - yes, the 20 week gender "guess" can definitely be wrong. It happened to us first time around. The doctor wasn't particularly convincing and didn't explain anything but said it was a girl. At the 30 week scan - a different doc - asked us why we kept saying "she" when it was clearly a boy! We had actually not bought anything pink yet or even settled on a name partly because the same thing had happened to a friend. I think it is slightly more common for girls to turn into boys than the other way around. This time around at 12, 20, and 27 weeks (with a total of 5 different techs/docs giving opinions) it appears to be a girl, so we got one after all. :)
