Counting Kicks at 38 weeks? **Back from hospital-page 2**

When you were on about your baby not being as engaged, I was at the consultant on Monday this week, my baby isnt engaged at all... head down but totally free (she could turn if she really wanted too) the hospital said it will make no difference what so ever to me going into labour spontaneously... Im not sure if this is true as my first didnt engage an I had to be induced... I know its different with a 2nd baby but Im not sure how!!! Just thought Id share that with you hun, it may not be as bad as you think lol xx

Peanut - I know what you mean about the conflicting advice. I think the truth is that all babies are different and while most people do get less movement towards the end, there are always going to be people that are the exception to the rule. I went to the hospital and was monitored twice last week as my baby had been very quiet for two days. Movement had reduced from approx 20-30 a day to 10 max. Everything I had read said that if the pattern of movement changes or movements reduce dramatically you should report it. My MW said this was right. They monitored me the first time and the baby was being lazy - bit like Lexi's by the sound of it. They gave me some lucozade and the baby's movement picked up. They emphasised the importance of eating regularly at this stage - i.e every 2 hours or so. I was told to go back the following day after eating a decent lunch and the trace was completely normal. I saw the doctor afterwards and she said that as a rule of thumb in late pregnancy you should count a minimum of 10 movements in a waking day. Anything less than that is a cause for concern apparently. Yesterday by 3pm I had only had 4 movements and I was getting worried, I got a further 2 by 6pm so I was up to 6. I was thinking about going to triage but decided to eat my dinner first. At 7.30 the baby suddenly went through an active phase so I went over 10. I expected the baby to go to sleep and I felt reassured. In a complete turn around the baby started moving around at 10pm and it went on until 11.30pm!!!!!!! So basically I had worried all day for nothing.

Lexi - I'm glad your trace was ok and I hope my experience last week helps put your mind at rest
