Cows milk before 12 months?

My mum had Caitlyn for a few hours yesterday and gave her 7oz of cows milk.. I can NEVER get her to take more than 2oz of formula.

So tempting to give her cows milk but everyone says how bad it is for them.

Anyone given their baby cows milk before 12 months and had them live to tell the tale?

Still breastfeeding too.

Hey Sweetie ,

At max's 9 month check up the doctor said it was fine to give him cows milk now as hes eats a well balanced diet , he actually prefers to have cows milk then his formula so I was lucky he took to it really well ..

If your Lo likes it them keep to it and still BF if you wish ..but just make sure she eats everything she needs ..which im sure she does already ..

yes you are suppose to start integrating cows milk at 9 months. It shouldn't replace formula or bm entirely until 12 months.

Personally I don't think it's a problem. I think as long as she is getting enough of the nutrients like iron and protein from the rest of her food giving her cows milk would be fine. Obviously others would disagree. But it's a lot cheaper and if she drinks more of it then I would just see how she goes with it.

If shes anything like max she will take more cows milk them formula lol my son used to only drink 20 oz of formula a day ..now with cows milk he drinks about 24-30oz ..dr said I should chill out on the fat stuff but heck my sons so thin just like his dad !!

I started Elinor on cows milk at 10 months :) Shes doin fine :) xxx :hugs:

I was thinking of starting to integrate cows milk into Valerie's diet when she turns 10 months old (which is just around the corner)! We are huge organic people though, so she'll be getting Organic whole cow's milk. I'm anxious to see how she does with it. I would go ahead Toria and start to slowly integrate it into Caitlyn's day. See how well she takes to it.

Cows milk wont hurt them, the only reason your not supposed to give them that over formula is because it doesn't have the nutrients and vitamins that are added to formula. As long as she is still getting mostly BF, then a cup of milk wont hurt her.

I was told that a child under 12 months immune system wasnt ready for the bacteria levels in cows milk, unless mixed with his/her food. I've not tried Kyle with cows milk as I put him into Aptimals Growing Up milk.

 The doctor said that? Alexa's Pediatrician said never give a baby low fat anything, because they need the fat-and that being said Alexa is very overweight, and her pediatrician still says she should have whole fat things!!

rileys bene on cows milk since about 10 months he loves it

I think each child is different. we tried to give caitlyn cows milk with a bit of cereal the other day and she was very sick, in her case, she isnt ready at all! Sounds like your LO is though if she was fine after 7oz xx

She was fine, no sick or anything. Think I'll try some more later and see how we go. Thanks girls x

You just have to make sure you buy pasteurized milk. I would never give a baby raw milk, I dont even drink it myself.

I just bought whole milk yesterday to give to Bella. I'm still breast feeding too, but I'd rather she drink milk than formula. BTW Toria, I can't believe you are still breast feeding! Good for you!

I just had Char's 9mo visit today and asked about giving her milk and he said not until she's 12 mo, but...formula is just getting TOO expensive so I'm thinking about switching her over too...but how do you do it?? Just go blind and give them milk or what?

You can't switch them over until 12 months! Not fully anyway. You can just give them a cup or two of regular milk, but they still need mostly formula so I don't think you're gonna save much

Just be careful if theres any dairy sensitivities in your family. My family is ridled with them and as such won't be giving savannah cows milk till at least 12 months
