hi ladies can anyone reccomend anything for treating Cradle Cap?

i have tried dentinox CC shampoo and olive oil but it seems to be getting worse, i have a docs appt. to see if they can give anything stronger but would like to not have to use steroid creams xxx

thanks in advance x

i was going to suggest seeing your gp-dentinox works on elliot, i'm not sure what else to use? hmm...

I've heard of olive oil or baby oil, but i've read with this that you should wash your babies hair with a baby shampoo after using it as leaving the oil in can make the flakes stick. I'd try washing hair everyday (if you haven't been) and when you see the doctor ask about a cream that's available called hydrocortisone which should help the redness and such!

hydrocortisone is a topical steroid. Halle had really bad cradle cap for weeks and weeks, I didn't want to use anything strong and found what worked best in the end was baby oil, rubbed in really well, leave for half hour. Then brush out in the opposite direction with a soft bristle brush. Wash with baby shampoo, rinse well.

Did this every other day for 5 days and worked a treat.

Olive oil wasn't great as it's so thick and sticks leaving yucky yellow patches by the end of the day. Dentinox was really drying and left her scalp red, sore and flaky dry.

yep totally agree the dentinox seems to be just drying his scalp so much xx

thanks for advice will give it a go xxx

I used the steroid drops, but Helena's head was so itchy she was scratching it and making her head bleed and she was not sleeping that well at all. I used them for about 5 days and never had to use them again.

Now I just put a small amount of olive oil in her bath water.

I find the baby oil with a soft bristle brush works wonders as well. I used more than I normally did and left it longer, and used a bristle brush instead of the comb that I normally did and it looked like a blizzard exploded on Claire's head.

However, it got rid of alot of the scales that were creeping up past her hairline. I find the stuff in her hair is alot harder to get rid of.

The baby oil does work a lot better than olive oil, just make sure to wash it out! Hope it gets better soon!

Baby oil worked very well with Kathryn, though she had lots of hair (still does) so we had to wash with baby shampoo right after leaving it sit for a while.

Boots own cradle cap cream worked wonders for Jack - still have nearly a full tube left too! Don't know what I am keeping it for!!

I will try the baby oil then. I have been washing her hair daily with Detinox cradle cap shampoo, but there is hardly any change. It is clearing but, verrry slowly.

when my dd had cradle cap i used to bath her then with cotton wool balls dab olive oil on her head just before she went to bed then first thing in the morning i brushed her hair with a cheap baby brush from pound shop then wash it off it went within a couple of days. xx
