We are all flailing through 2nd tri and looking for ways to pass the time. For me, I love to paint and sew!

So far I have finished one wall painting in my daughter's room, a carrier and I fixed up a bassinet!

I have plans on custom burp cloths like I made for my son, a coming home outfit, a ring sling, blankets and whatever else I end up having time for.

Included a "before" picture of the bassinet for comparison. :)

I have started my literature quotes. But, that is just stenciling on canvas. So far I have ten picked out with plans to do a few more. I'm also going to start making a book lamp, my mom and I (mostly my mom) are going to sew his crib bedding. we bought all of the fabric last week. my husband is making the cradle which is probably the biggest project along with a signpost for the corner of the nursery. and a book case for the wall. I would like to just be able to buy the bedding but I hate everything that doesn't cost three or four hundred dollars and I don't have it in me to spend that much on crib bedding when I think that's too expensive for my bed.

Another good option for cheaper baby stuff are baby consignment expos and shops :)
You can find gently used items for a fraction of the price.

The bassinet for example only cost me $20 and is in perfect condition.

It will be really special if you guys make it though! I have never made a full crib set but I love making blankets.

Extra crib sheets are a must though! Otherwise it's a pain when the one gets dirty. :)

I asked her after looking for a long time. My mothers side of the family has always quilted and sewed, I have quilts that are over a hundred years old my great-great grandmother made them. One of her cousins is crocheting his coming home from the hospital blanket. they do really good work, better than what I could find at a store.

We are making the skirt for the crib, the bumpers, a blanket that I will probably hang on the wall (not supposed to put blankets in the crib. and some pillows for decoration). I chose the fabric and a pattern and she will take it from there. I will help with ironing and there's some kind of filament thing that I have to iron onto the fabric so that it will be stiff. and just general be keeping her company through the process. The sheets I'm going to buy, I think it would be dumb to make sheets that will probably get pooed and puked on. The handmade thing I unfortunately didn't learn. I can do very basic sewing and patchwork quilts. I've been saving my husbands travel t-shirts to turn into a quilt, but nothing like my mothers generation.

You girls are inspiring! It has made me think I really need to get my butt into gear and do some planning. We think we're having a boy (12 wk scan) but will only know for sure at the next scan (next Monday) so I've sort of been waiting to find out. ALSO, we have just moved into bro-in-law's house as we sold our house but our house is still being built... praying it's done before baby arrives! I don't want to accumulate stuff as we don't have storage space. So frustrating! Please keep sending your crafty ideas, love them!

I started to crochet a flower blanket for my youngest but never finished it. Maybe I will now. :haha: Other than that, I don't think I'll have time to make anything much at all. Maybe a couple of taggie blankets or toys. And I'll definitely make a little sewn blanket, same style as both my others had, but that's a half-an-hour project.

I found blankets are okay in the crib if they lay absolutely flat and do not come loose, otherwise wait until baby has no trouble getting up and rolling back and forth by themselves. For my son, I wasn't comfortable until he was 11 months because I am a weirdo. Sleep sacks save the day when it comes to keeping them warm. I was told that bumpers were also a no if they are plush. Mesh bumpers are apparently safe for all ages though.

I think it's soooo cool that your family has such a long history with sewing! Both of my grandmothers sewed and one knits but my mother and aunts were never interested. It was a pleasant surprise for my grandmothers when I started painting and sewing at a young age.

Thank you!

I definitely get wanting to know the gender so that you can start preparing. I felt so on edge with it because I had already made custom things for my son so the preparation would have been less exciting for me because everything would have been made! I would have made a few special things anyway but since she's a girl- I'm going nuts! Poor husband. Haha.

I have been in and out of the fabric store. It's really not my fault- they keep sending beautiful coupons and having awesome sales :haha:

I admire that! I couldn't crochet to save my life! I can loom knit but that's so easy that a 5 year old could do it. Haha. It makes great blankets though!

I love taggie blankets. I found they were great for travel especially. He could chew on them and we could clip toys to them. Plus they are easy and fun to make!

I haven't started yet, but plan on sewing the crib bedding and a blanket, along with some burp clothes. We're doing a Star Wars theme, so been trying to find the perfect fabric. :)

I'm making cot mobile and bedding x

Sounds good! I've never tried a mobile! What's your theme? :)

My best friend loves Star Wars! If she had her way, I'd be making Sith Lady outfits!

I know that JoAnn recently had a sale on Star Wars prints :)

So I got really into it and made a bunch of stuff haha but now I don't have energy for more lol excuse all the pictures.. I had fun lol

Absolutely adorable happynewmom1!!

I am working on burp cloths and I didn't even consider curving them! That's really cool :) I will post mine later today once I finish the last three.

I also love your cubes. May have to do some myself ;)

I love the idea of the burp cloths! They are bigger too so hopefully less ruined shirts for me haha most of the ideas I did came from pinterest! Let me know if you want links to anything and I'll look for them. There are patterns for the burp cloths and the cubes which was great for scraps BTW :)
