Crying for More - what do you do?

i dont pay any attention to the chart on the back of the box of formula. im happy to feed on demand, when ollie is hungry, she gets fed, even if it means feeding her just an hour after her last bottle. i think she is a much better guide as to how much she needs to eat than the back of a box xx

I agree completely :):) xx

We spent ages winding her, trying to give her her dummy (which she kept spitting out), swaddling her, taking her into a dark room, rocking her... After an hour I eventually tried more milk, and she was off to sleep after an ounce :dohh:

I'm happy to give extra occasionally, but I don't want to give it all the time if she's going to be overeating; I'm worried about her getting overweight - my OH is overweight and he doesn't want it happening to LO. Trouble is, once you make a habit of giving extra, the baby will rely on it, and I don't want her to rely on it unless she needs it.

I may take her to be weighed today and ask the advice of the HV. You're right that it's all a guessing game. I would love to demand feed her, but so worried about her gaining too much weight!

Demand feeding wont make her gain too much weight hun :flower: Your baby knows how much she wants and when she wants it and will cry, hoping that you'll give it to her. Babies dont overeat hun, what they cant fit in their bellies, they'll throw it up anyways :) They just take what they need.
When your LO goes thru a growth spurt she will demand much more milk, and not just on the occasional bottle!
I demand feed Evie. She has 4 8oz bottles a day, most of the time she'll leave about half an oz in the bottle, but I know that her appetite is satisfied then, and she's thriving. She's not overweight at all, she's on the 82nd percentile for her weight and the HV and doctors are very pleased with her.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I've been formula feeding for a couple of weeks after b/f went a bit wrong! There was so much advice when I was b/f but nothing for formula and I was worried I was over feeding.

She has been feeding every couple of hours and not had that "milk drunk" look she used to get after her feeds. HV said not to give her more and just offer her water but shes had 3 days of only sleeping for a couple of hours and then looking for more food. Really reassuring that she's not the only one!!

dont worry about babies weight, babies naturally become chubby, it is the way they grow and witholding milk when she is hungry will do nothing other then jepordise her develpoment

if she is finishing 5oz bottles just hive her 6oz, its as simple as that, whatever baby needs

but please please dont worry about having an overweight baby, you really need to relax on this one as it could become a real problem in the futr=ure hun, busy toddlers eat loads, and they need it, you just have to give them what they need when they are young

If she is still hungry give an extra ounce or so. That may be all she needs
