Curious Canadian looking for Americans input:)

I went to our main hospital in early pregnancy to their early pregnancy until. I was less then an hour and it was 12 dollars for parking. In comparison, my ob who is about a block away from that hospital, is 3.75 for 2 hours. Had I been a bit less lazy I could have saved some money. It's worrisome as where I parked is where we'll have to park for my delivery, how much will 24 or more hrs cost me!? Lol.

We pay for hospital parking in the UK and it can be very expensive, I think they are looking at new restrictions to make it cheaper. However when my husband was in hospital for several weeks and I was parking all the time to go and visit him, I got a very discounted rate and it really wasn't too expensive so I think they sting people who are just visiting for appointments or short term, whereas if you need to park regularly then they do make it cheaper for you. That's just where we are though, it varies from area to area.

Most of the hospitals here in Virginia that I have gone to do not have to pay to park.

With DS the hospital billed my insurance $12,000 for a normal, uncomplicated vaginal delivery. My OB's fees were $3500. Out of pocket I paid my $1000 deductible. This time around my out of pocket will be $2000 due to an increase in my deductible.

I live in a rural area and there are no parking fees anywhere, hospital included.

I have medicaid for myself and baby, so won't ever see a bill. I'm glad too, as dd spent a week in NICU. Can't even imagine what that would cost. As far as parking, I live in a med-size city ( about 300,000) and all the hospitals have free valet parking if u want. They also have garage parking. Not actually sure if that's free or not.

I feel very blessed to live in Canada. My pregnancy was complicated and I needed to stay in hospital a total of 6 weeks, have a c section performed by a specialist, and routine NSTs, ultrasounds and fetal heart monitoring throughout my stay. Afterwards, DS was in the NICU for 5 days, then spent a week in SCN and we didn't pay a cent. I am very fortunate and would never complain about our system. If it is serious and an emergency, you won't have to wait. The hospital bill for my stay alone for requesting a semi-private and private room was about $8000, our insurance covered most of this. I can't imagine what our medical care would have cost here.

I was stuck in the hospital for 6 days for my labor and delivery. Cost me $65 in parking and that was with the last day being free! The check out clerk looked at our receipt and nearly had a heart attack and let us go for free.
