Well i have been ttc for nearly 2 years on cd 1 of cycle 23. As i am still young i am leaving it 2 years to see if i can concieve naturally with no interferance as i want to give it some time and not be impatient and then the doctor cannot send me away to wait for longer as 2 years if quite sufficient...
Anyway i dont really know what to say to him, i.e. do i just say i have been ttc for however long and i have not had any luck i have tried bbt charting, etc or do i not go into detail? should i take bbt charts and diary of bding etc or should i just say the basics?

Also what should i expect e.g. blood tests, what questions will he ask?, will they send us to fertility specialist or do it themselves? (UK)
Just any info will be greatly appreciated cause i'm really worried about going :dohh:

Hiya!

whereabout in the south-east are you? Reason I ask is coz Im in West Sussex and basically just been told that there's NHS budget for fertility until April 2011 and then there's a few months wait after that too....That's just to get your first appointment. I know it varies from surgery to surgery but be prepared for a long wait.

BUT - they should get the ball rolling themselves. For example, you'll have several blood tests done and most likely have an ultrasound. DP will have his sperm tested - we didn't need to wait for a referral to have all that done.

So they may have some answers for you before you've even been referred.

But if you need more serious investigations (like a laparoscopy and a HSG to check out the tubes) then that will come from the fertility specialist.

I doubt they'll send you away after 2 years ttc - even if you are young!

Good Luck!

I'm in kent and wow that is not good.. although i can wait a few more months if i have to!
Will they be able to use old blood results im asking because i had a series of blood tests to rule out lupus a
month or so ago? Thank you for your information though do you think i need to take all my things with me
or will he just do routine things? .. I guess he will decide if i need further testing?

Hi There,

Myself and my Hubby have been TTC for 3 years on and off - NTNP,

We hadc our first Doc appoinement last night, we went along together - we made a double appointment. We just said that I have been off the pill for 3 years. he just asks a series of questions, like is AF regular, have you had any operations before, have you ever had mumps, or have you ever been pregnant etc - dont know why he asks these things he has been my Dr since I was a child!! lol

I didnt really ahve the oppotunity to say what I'd tried like doing the BBT, the OPK's etc. He made notes on his PC and said to send me for CD21 Bloods, which they tests to see if your Ov'ing. I'm 29 and Dh 31 (just a bit of info) lol.
He is testing me for ovulation, tyroid, liver, kidney, dibetes - my dad is Diabetic, Celeoaics desise - my mother has this!! lol also checking my hormones, you name it - the works!! lol

DH has been given a pot to produce in, and he also wanted his bloods done - so Dr said no probs we will get yours done too!!! - full MOT for him too.

I was suprised, as normally Dr's penny pinch a bit, but not him!!! Tehy dont ask any uncomfortable questions or anything.

You will be fine, I'm just not looking forward to having blood taken, xxxxx

Aww thanks for that princess leah!
Glad they finally sorting things out for you and i hope they find a small problem they can fix easily so you can get a bfp!
I was a bit worried they were going to ask all sorts of embarrassing things  but if its just blood tests i will be fine! I have already given up drinking & smoking, started eating meat, put on some weight everything he could possibly query so i'm hoping he will send me off for tests rather than send me away with possible reasons just so they dont have to use money- sounds like you have a really good doctor!
Good luck with the blood test!

Thanks Honey,

I thought he would ask uncomfortable questions too, but no. And he didnt ask any life style questions about drinking or smoking nothing like that which i thought would have been one of the first things he would have asked.

When he gavce DH the pot, he said dont bring it back here as it will sit around for ages, I want you to produce in the pot lol, keep it nice and warm - under your arm or soemthing, jump in the car and get it straight down to the general hospital!! - he was quite comical about it.

The only thing he did ask and he is quite funny - he said and I'm guessing you are actually having sex yes?? - lol my poor DH is worn out!! he continued to say "well you know some couples come in and expect miricles but arnt doing the necessary to get pregnant"!! lol

I do seem to have a good Dr, I'm very rarely poorly so ive not seen him much. Must been getting my NI contributions worth now!!! lol xx

Hi

We went to see our GP after 7 months of ttc and was told to come back when we had been ttc for 1 yr. So he shouldnt send you away and if he does, see another doc if you can.

My doc sent me for CD21 bloods, swabs to test for any infection, DH SA x2 and a pelvic ultrasound, once all the results were back we got referred.
It was a 7 week wait to be referred but luckily only had to wait 4 weeks as I kept calling in and managed to get a cancellation.

Then then fs sent me for CD2 bloods and a hycosy - had them both now waiting to see FS again ( was booked in for end of jan but called up again after hycosy yesterday and managed to get a cancellation for dec )

Suppose it has been quick but because I'm impatient, I have made it quicker than it should have been

The doc just asked how long we had been trying for, how often we BD, if we have been pregnant before, questionsm about af etc

Good luck, be assertive and write down any questions you have, even if they seem silly they are not, I have learnt in this process, ask as many questions so you dont leave the room feeling like you dont know what is the next step

xx

@ princess leah- Yeah haha least he is making you feel nice and relaxed i might join your GP's office,
i dont like my doctor very much he just listens and prescribes you something he doesnt actually like talk it out
or anything unless its him bashing on about smoking or birth control (hence the worries) i'm debating going to my
walk in service at the hospital rather than the doctor ive had all my life cause it feels weird haha!

@ Ebony blaze- Thanks hun! I will make sure that i know everything thats going on before i leave him or i will
just wind myself up (or ask on here again haha!) You got through really quickly! I dont mind waiting but i really
would like to find out if anything is wrong to see if its easily sorted! 7 weeks is not long when you been waiting
2 years! so i should not be too stressed! Debating going tomorrow now instead of waiting.. will have to speak to
OH!

Hi, Just wanted to say that there should be no reason for them sending you away if you have been trying for 2 years. Your doctor should be testing your thyroid, especially if you have been skinny (like I was previous to ttc), Day 21 to see if you ovulate, Day 1-3 FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, Rubella antibodies, Chlamydia and Infection screening. If all your test come back fine you will probably be sent for a HyCosy or HSG to check if your tubes are clear or not. Your partner will need to have a Sperm Analysis done too.

These tests try to rule out all possible problems.

Ebony is right though - write down any questions you have because you get given so much information or it can become quite overwhelming that sometimes your mind goes blank (or in my case, my mind goes blank every time!! lol). I always come out afterwards thinking 'Oh I should have asked that!'.

I am in Kent too, my consultant is at Maidstone Hospital and is absolutely lovely!

Good luck hun. xxx

Thank you :) i will definitely write down questions as i'm one of the people that walks into the doctors and cannot even remember why i am there haha! I always forget to ask things so i will just give him a list of questions (he is used to it from me) makes sure i dont forget anything or chicken out of asking thing
I will possibly be sent to Maidstone hospital cause i am in swale  will prob have to chose between chatham and maidstone so will choose maidstone if it comes to it as you say your consultant it lovely! :D

xxxx

I'm in Sittingbourne, so was a bit confused when I was sent to Maidstone as Medway would be closer, but I'm pleased with my consultant at Maidstone. And the Nurse Practioner who I saw initially was lovely too.

My consultant seems to understand that when you have been ttc for so long you want to get tests and appointments quickly, which is good - because i am very impatient! lol

I have another appointment with my consultant on Monday.

Fingers crossed you get your referral soon!

xxxx

Well i will keep you updated as to how it goes but i'm leaving it until after xmas and having a few last tries  can't hurt :D
Glad you get the appointments quickly though because it must be hard waiting for as long as you have! I get annoyed with waiting for nearly 2 years but you have nearly doubled that!
Hope they find some solution for you soon :hugs:

xxxx

Thanks hunni - hope your trying pays off with a nice Xmas BFP!! xxxx
