Hello everyone! Today I went for my scan and at 13weeks+3 everything looked fine except for the NT measurement. At an average of 3.4mm we were told that it could be pretty bad.

I am 28, DH is 42 and this will be our 5th baby. None of our other kids have had any issues.

I am seeing a fetal specialist tomorrow and will probably have a CVS. I have read such encouraging stories on the Internet but just can't understand why my dr made it sound so so terrible, like there was no hope.

The fluid was by baby's neck and she said it's a cystic Hygroma. Please are there any encouraging or factual stories you can share with me? I can't bear the thought of being told I have to decide to terminate this pregnancy or not and I am a mess.

Thanks for reading. Xxxx

Hi, at our scan at 12 weeks babies nuchal neck measurement was 3.5mm, the blood tests were entirely normal for hormone levels and i was 27 at the time.. this gave us a risk factor of 1:45 for downs syndrome. We were told it could be a chromosome issue, heart defect (this would cause poor circulation hence the fluid build up), infection like toxoplasmosis or it could be nothing. We decided to only have a CVS test done due to the risk if there was any other signs of a problem.. we were referred for anomoly scans, blood tests for infection and specialist heart scans and nothing so we rode it out and i had a perfect baby girl in January. There's plenty of hope for you and your little one, i did find in my case though the professionals are always cautious to give you much hope till you know for sure. Good luck :flower:

Thank you so much for your reply. I went for my appointment with the Fetal Medicine specialist and as yesterday our baby boy looks absolutely perfect apart from the nuchal fold. Today with a better resolution machine the dr got some 4mm measurements. The reassuring part was seeing the nasal bone, the feet and the ankle angle, the flow of blood, the brain, heart, etc all seem to be developing perfectly fine.
Had the CVS done so now we sit and wait probably until friday for the prelim results... Got everything crossed!! Can't believe that there is something wrong with that perfect boy.

Congrats on your girl! and so happy you had a happy ending. Here's hoping for mine!xxx:flower:

That's great, they're all good signs, sounds just like mine and i always felt i knew she was fine and she was. Glad you don't have long to wait for some news, ive my fingers crossed for you and your little boy.
